I Looked Into Water Park Nagatoro
2026-08-24

Continuing my series of looking into campsites in the Chichibu and Nagatoro area, this time it's "Water Park Nagatoro."
It seems to be a facility located right next to the Arakawa River, and it also serves as a departure point for river-line boat rides and rafting.
This facility has flush toilets, coin showers, and Wi-Fi all in place, plus a solid lineup of rental gear, so it seemed like a place you could visit easily even without bringing your own equipment.
As for signal strength, the official tool didn't return a result, so if that's a concern for you, it seems worth checking for yourself as well.
I've put together the details below.
What Kind of Place Is Water Park Nagatoro?
This is a campsite located in Minano Town, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture, and it apparently operates on a seasonal basis (typically mid-March through late December). During the winter months (late October through late May), it seems only the fishing area stays open.
Reservations can apparently be made online starting 120 days in advance, or by phone starting 7 days in advance.
As for rates, the standard auto-camping sites run from 4,070 to 7,040 yen, powered sites from 5,830 to 8,800 yen, and hammock sites (with power) from 5,830 to 9,240 yen. Wood trailers and cottages seem to range from around 6,500 to 26,950 yen.
Check-in and check-out times are apparently 13:00 onward / until 11:30 for auto sites, and 15:00 onward / until 11:00 for wood trailers and cottages.
If you just want to play in the river without staying overnight, there's also apparently a "day camp" option using free space along the riverbank. On regular days it runs from 10:00 to 16:00 (on certain days from 9:00 to 16:00, with check-in accepted until noon), limited to groups of up to 8 people, and it apparently includes access to changing rooms, coin showers, flush toilets, and the shop.

All the wood trailers and cottages come fully equipped with air conditioning, which really caught my attention since I like the idea of solo camping in winter but worry about the cold.
Checking Out the Amenities That Matter to an Indoor Type Like Me
The toilets are apparently fully flush-equipped (Western-style with bidet function).
The bathing facilities are coin-operated hot water showers, and body soap and rinse-in shampoo are apparently provided, so you could probably pack lighter.
The shop seems to have a pretty solid lineup of rental items, including tents, tarps, sleeping bags, BBQ stands, and lanterns. That seems like a real help for indoor types like me who don't own their own gear.
- Powered sites: available at powered sites, hammock sites, RV sites, and others
- Wi-Fi: available (signal strength at individual sites not confirmed)
- Cooking area: hot water supply available
- Wood trailers and cottages: all fully equipped with air conditioning (hot carpets and similar during winter)
- Changing rooms available (for those using the river or rafting)
- Small dog run available (limited to auto-camping and day-camp guests; certain dog breeds not permitted)
Wi-Fi is apparently available, but since I couldn't confirm the signal strength at each individual site, it seems like a good idea to check that along with cellular signal ahead of time for extra peace of mind.
About the Fishing Area
Within the grounds, there seem to be separate areas: a "lure and fly" zone for adults and a "family fishing area" (bait fishing) for kids. Operating hours are apparently 7:00 to 17:00 (subject to seasonal change), and the operating season runs roughly from late October through early June the following year.
The lure and fly area apparently requires single barbless hooks, with treble hooks, worm-type lures, and snagging all prohibited. Even if you don't own a reel or rod, rental rods are available (1,200 yen, including reel and net), so it seems possible to try it out without any gear of your own. The family fishing area centers on bait fishing for rainbow trout (8 fish per rod), and bait and tackle are apparently provided there individually as well.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
I checked this facility's address using the official My Area Connectivity Simulation tool, but just like other facilities around Nagatoro Town, no result was displayed.
It seems like detailed addresses in this area may often fall outside the data this tool covers.
If this matters to you, it's probably worth checking the official tool yourself as well. The on-site Wi-Fi also seems like it could serve as a backup.

I've noticed that a lot of addresses around Nagatoro Town consistently fail to return a result. If you're worried about it, trying your specific destination on the official tool ahead of time seems like the surest way to know for certain.
I use Rakuten Mobile myself day to day, and checking signal conditions like this has become a bit of a habit for me. If you haven't signed up yet, it might be worth taking a look at the official site whenever you're considering it.
Nearby Spots Worth Visiting While You're Here
- Nagatoro river-line boat rides and rafting (can depart directly from the Arakawa River in front of the facility)
- Minano Oyahana Riverbank (about a 4-minute walk)
- Nagatoro Gorge and the Iwadatami rock formations (10 minutes by car)
- Hodosan Shrine and the Hodosan Ropeway (10-15 minutes by car)
- Chichibu Onsen Mangan no Yu (7 minutes by car)
- Seine no Yu (15 minutes by car)
- Michi-no-Eki Minano roadside station (5 minutes by car)
Since river-based activities are all available right in front of the facility, the location seems convenient with minimal travel needed.
Access
By car, the route apparently goes from the Hanazono IC on the Kan-etsu Expressway, heading toward Chichibu along National Route 140, then turning right at the Kanezaki intersection and following the signs. If coming via the Minano-Nagatoro Road (Minano-Yorii Bypass), the route apparently involves exiting onto local roads at the Minano-Nagatoro IC and then following the signs.
By train, it's apparently about an 800-meter walk from Kaminagatoro Station or Oyahana Station on the Chichibu Railway.
Wrapping Up
Pulling it all together, Water Park Nagatoro left me with the impression of being a facility with flush toilets, coin showers, and rental gear all in place, making it easy to visit light even without your own equipment. Having air conditioning in all the wood trailers and cottages is also a nice touch when you consider the winter months.
Since the official tool didn't return a signal result either, if that's something you're concerned about, it might be reassuring to try the official area-check tool yourself before booking.
Having looked into all this, Rakuten Mobile does provide an official tool for checking signal conditions, so if you're thinking about signing up, it might be worth taking a look at some point.
