I Looked Into Seion no Yu
2026-08-24

I'd been researching the Chichibu-Nagatoro area out of a longing to try winter solo camping, but this time instead of a campsite, I looked into "Natural Private Hot Spring Seion no Yu."
I meant to research camping spots today, but as usual, I got sidetracked because the hot spring caught my interest more.
Free shuttle buses run from Chichibu Railway's and Seibu Railway's Seibu-Chichibu Station, so it looked like an easy-to-reach hot spring facility even for someone like me who doesn't drive.
Rakuten Mobile's official tool rated the signal here as "C," so it seems like a good idea to rely on the facility's free Wi-Fi as well.
I've summarized the details below.
What Kind of Place Is Seion no Yu?
It's a day-trip hot spring facility located in Shimoyoshida, Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Regular business hours are apparently 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM (last entry 9:30 PM), and on Fridays, Saturdays, weekends, and consecutive holidays, hours extend to 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM (last entry 10:30 PM). There don't seem to be any regular closing days, aside from a few maintenance closures per year.
For access, it seems free shuttle buses run on a fixed schedule from Nagatoro Station, Minano Station, and Chichibu Station on the Chichibu Railway, as well as Seibu-Chichibu Station on the Seibu Railway. For someone like me who doesn't drive, this was a pretty major point in its favor.
Admission is apparently 930 yen for adults on weekdays and 1,030 yen on weekends/holidays, with evening admission (after 5 PM) priced at 730-830 yen, and the hot stone sauna at 300 yen per session. General admission doesn't require reservations, while the private rooms with attached open-air baths (three rooms total) apparently require phone reservations.
While browsing the official website, I also found a collaboration promotion with the nearby United Cinema Unics Chichibu. As of when I checked, they were apparently running a campaign where bringing in a same-day movie ticket stub gets you 200 yen off admission. Sounds like you could make a nice detour by hitting the hot spring after watching a movie.

Even though I have a license, I don't drive, so finding out there's a free shuttle bus from the station was a quietly satisfying discovery while researching this.
Checking Out the Facilities That Interest an Indoor Type Like Me
The water quality is apparently a sodium bicarbonate spring (hypotonic, alkaline, cold mineral spring), and the bathing areas seem to rotate weekly between men's and women's sides under the names "Forest of Stars/Boat of the Stars" and "Stone of the Moon/Wave of the Moon." "Forest of Stars" is apparently an open-air bath where you can enjoy the scent of cypress, while "Stone of the Moon" is an open-air rock bath arranged with natural stones. The large indoor bath "Boat of the Stars" apparently uses a mineral called "holy light stone," and "Wave of the Moon" uses one called "ochre stone." The hot stone sauna reportedly uses eight kinds of minerals, and it operates on a time-based, same-day reception system separated by gender (no advance reservations). The foot bath apparently has ceramic balls made from fired minerals called "far-infrared balls" laid out in it.
The large lounge area called "Rairaku," where you can rest, is a tatami-matted space located past the inner courtyard, and it seems usable both after bathing and for meeting up with others. The lie-down relaxation area "Manten" (16 beds shared/unisex, plus 16 beds for women only) apparently has dimmed lighting, which sounds well-suited for a quick nap. It seems designed so you can settle in and relax even if you stay a while.
- Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi available inside the facility (according to official information, there are no power outlets)
- Private rooms for rent (with attached open-air baths): Three rooms total (Koyoi-no-ma and Hoshizuki-no-ma are each about 6 tatami mats, Izayoi-no-ma is about 8 tatami mats). Pricing starts at 4,000 yen for 2 hours and 6,000 yen for 4 hours (Izayoi-no-ma starts at 5,000 yen for 2 hours and 7,000 yen for 4 hours), and reservations are apparently accepted only by phone starting at 9 AM one week in advance (the open-air bath inside the private room uses heated water)
- Relaxation services "Umi": Menu apparently includes massage, aroma lymphatic body treatment, facial treatments, foot reflexology, head reflexology, and body scrubs, with business hours from 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM (last reception 9:00 PM)
- Souvenir corner: There's apparently also a shop selling Chichibu specialty products and original goods from the facility
- Dining: Restaurant "Sora Raku" (offering waraji katsudon, miso potatoes, soba, and more)
- Parking: About 100 spaces, free
Since there apparently aren't any power outlets, it seems wise to charge your devices beforehand if you're planning to stay a while.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
When I checked this facility's address using the official My Area Connectivity Simulation tool, the overall rating came back as "C." Given that it's in a mountainous area, that's a somewhat modest result.
Since there's apparently free Wi-Fi inside the facility, it seems like a good idea to rely on that if the cellular signal is a concern.

The rating was modest, but since there's Wi-Fi in the building, it seems like you shouldn't have too much trouble if you're just there for a day-trip soak.
I use Rakuten Mobile day to day, so checking the signal like this has become a bit of a habit for me. If you haven't switched over yet, it might be worth checking the official website once when you're considering signing up.
Nearby Spots Worth Visiting While You're Out Here
- Kama no Ue Nouenmura Restaurant (run directly by Usagida Winery) (within walking distance)
- Usagida Winery direct sales shop (adjacent area)
- Michi-no-Eki Ryusei Kaikan (5 minutes by car)
- Sacred Site 33: Enmeizan Kikusuiji Temple (3-5 minutes by car)
- Chichibu Muse Park (15-20 minutes by car)
- Nagatoro area (rock formations, Mt. Hodo, etc.) (20 minutes by car, connected by shuttle bus)
- Nagatoro River Boat Ride (15 minutes by car, an experience where you ride a boat down the Arakawa River; operates apparently from early March through the end of November)
- Chichibu Railway's steam locomotive "Paleo Express" (runs between Kumagaya Station and Mitsumineguchi Station)
- Chichibu-Yoshida Fruit Highway (5 minutes by car, a tourist farm area for strawberry picking, grape picking, and more)
Since the winery is right next door, combining a visit to the direct sales shop after the hot spring sounds like a great idea too.
Wrapping Up
Pulling it all together, my impression of Seion no Yu is that it's a day-trip hot spring that looks easy to reach even without driving, thanks to the free shuttle bus from the station. With a sauna, hot stone sauna, and private rooms for rent all available, even getting sidetracked from camping research like this still feels satisfying.
The signal condition came back as a somewhat modest "C" rating, but since there's apparently free Wi-Fi in the building, it doesn't seem like something to worry too much about for a day trip.
Having looked into all this, Rakuten Mobile does offer an official tool for checking signal conditions, so if you're thinking about signing up, it might be worth taking a look at some point.
