I Looked Into Yamaai no Yado Yashiki

On this blog, I've been running an ongoing series where I look into accommodations and campsites and write articles about them. I've lost count of how many hot spring inns I've covered by now.

This time, I looked into an inn called Yamaai no Yado Yashiki, located in the Chichibu area of Saitama Prefecture. The old traditional house-style building overlooking a garden pond really caught my eye, and even as an indoor type, I found myself thinking, 'spending some quiet, spaced-out time in a place like this might actually be nice,' so I decided to put together some information on it.

The Short Version

With only 4 rooms and a fully private indoor bath, this struck me as a small inn suited to people who want to spend a quiet time.
The Rakuten Mobile signal came back with a rating of 'C' according to the official tool, so if you rely heavily on connectivity, it might be worth being a bit cautious.

I've put together the details below.

An Inn Charming for Its Traditional House Feel and Garden Pond

Apparently, Yamaai no Yado Yashiki is an inn located in Ogano Town, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture. It seems like it used to be introduced under a name that emphasized its traditional house atmosphere, but currently it appears to be operating simply as Yamaai no Yado Yashiki.

There are only 4 guest rooms in total, so it seems to be a fairly compact building. There are apparently three 8-tatami-mat Japanese-style rooms and one Japanese-Western style room that combines twin beds with a tatami area, and the location overlooking the garden pond was highlighted as a key feature. With so few rooms, I imagine the whole inn is wrapped in a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere.

As for the bath, there's apparently no large communal bath or open-air bath; instead, there's one private bath located in a separate building up a small path on the grounds. It seems to work on a room-by-room rotation system that makes it fully private each time, and I thought not having to worry about running into other guests was a nice point, even as an indoor type. That said, the water isn't from a natural mineral spring — it's apparently an artificial hot spring that uses natural minerals, so that's something worth knowing beforehand. Also, it doesn't seem to accept day-trip bathing guests; the bath appears to be reserved exclusively for overnight guests.

A fully private bath honestly feels like the most reassuring kind of facility when you think about it. Not having to worry about other people around is a big deal.

Meals and Facilities That Caught My Eye as an Indoor Type

Meals seem to be served in a dedicated dining area, and dishes like wild boar-pork hot pot, wild boar-pork cooked on a ceramic plate, homemade citrus-flavored konjac sashimi, and grilled or raw river fish were introduced as specialties that make use of local ingredients. My impression was that this is an inn where you can enjoy rustic, countryside cooking that fits its mountain-valley setting.

In terms of facilities, I was able to confirm the following information.

  • Wi-Fi: Apparently available throughout the entire building
  • Parking: There appear to be about 4 free spaces available
  • Check-in: From around 3:00 PM (last check-in at 8:00 PM), with check-out by 10:00 AM
  • Approximate rates: For one night with two meals, prices seem to range from around 7,500 to 21,000 yen per adult, depending on the season and plan
  • Reservations: Bookings can apparently be made through the official website's web reservation system or by phone. It also seems possible to book through travel reservation sites such as Rakuten Travel

The fact that Wi-Fi works throughout the whole building was welcome news for someone like me who likes to hole up in a room. There also seem to be nearby sightseeing spots such as Washiiwayama Kannon-in temple, the roadside station Michi-no-Eki Ryokami Onsen Yakushi no Yu, and Onouchi Gorge, so spending part of the daytime out and about seems like an option too.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

As for the Rakuten Mobile signal conditions I was curious about, I checked this facility's location using the official my Area Connectivity Simulation tool.

The overall rating came back as 'C.' This is the result I was able to confirm using the official tool. Perhaps because of its mountain-valley location, I felt it would be a good idea to check the connectivity situation in advance. Even though Wi-Fi is available inside the building, if you're planning to use Rakuten Mobile while out and about or on the move, it might be reassuring to prepare with this result in mind.

A 'C' rating is a bit concerning, but if there's in-house Wi-Fi, you might not have too much trouble during your stay. Still, I'd be a little worried while traveling there and back.

Wrapping Up

To sum it up again, my impression of Yamaai no Yado Yashiki was that of a traditional house-style inn with only 4 rooms and a fully private indoor bath, offering a quiet place to spend your time. Between the building overlooking the garden pond and the local cuisine featuring wild boar-pork dishes, it felt like an inn where you could really soak in the atmosphere unique to a mountain valley setting.

Since the Rakuten Mobile signal came back with an overall rating of 'C,' anyone who places importance on connectivity should probably check in advance. Even though in-house Wi-Fi is available, if you're also thinking about using your connection while traveling or out and about, it's worth checking with the official Rakuten Mobile tool yourself if you're concerned.
