I Looked Into Nagatoro Auto Campsite
2026-08-21

It's been several years since I set a goal to go solo camping in winter.
This time, I looked into one of my candidate spots: Nagatoro Auto Campsite (also known as Riverside Nagatoro Auto Campsite) in Nagatoro, Saitama.
Looking at the facilities (restrooms, Wi-Fi, powered sites), I got the impression that even an indoor-type beginner like me could go without overthinking it too much.
As for signal coverage, there might be some unevenness depending on the terrain, so it seems safer to check the official area-confirmation tool beforehand.
I've summarized the details below.
What Kind of Place Is Nagatoro Auto Campsite?
It's an auto campsite located in Nagatoro, Chichibu District, open from March to December (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
Reservations are only accepted online through the official website, and booking opens at 0:00 on the first day of the month, two months before the intended stay.
Apparently phone reservations are only accepted for same-day bookings.
The facility usage fee is 800 yen for adults and 400 yen for children, on top of which a site fee (roughly 3,200 to 9,000 yen per night, varying by plot and season) is added. Bungalows and glamping options are also available, ranging from about 6,000 to 40,000 yen per night.

I was thinking that jumping straight into tent camping felt like a pretty high hurdle... so having bungalow and glamping options available is honestly a bit reassuring.
Checking Out the Vibe in Videos Too
Since text alone doesn't always convey everything, I also watched the official promotional video. It gave a clear sense of the atmosphere and the layout of the sites.
There was also a video introducing the check-in process. Knowing how things work on the day in advance feels a bit reassuring as a beginner.
Checking Out the Facilities That Matter to an Indoor Type Like Me
The first things I check are the restroom and bathing situation.
This site has flush toilets with washlets throughout, and apparently there are also kids' toilets and accessible restrooms.
On top of that, it seems there's a women-only powder room and a women-only hot water shower room as well.
That said, there's no large communal bath or hot spring on-site—bathing is limited to hot water showers only (included in the facility usage fee).
If you're the type who really wants to soak in a proper hot spring, it looks like you'd want to plan on combining this with one of the nearby hot springs mentioned later.
I also checked the official website's "Shared Facilities" page, and it looks like usage hours are set: the women-only powder room and shower rooms are open 12:00–21:30 (5 rooms each, no amenities provided), the nursing room is open 8:30–17:00, and the picture book room is open 9:30–17:00.
There's also a dog run and a play area, so the layout seems easy to navigate whether you're bringing kids or pets.
- Powered sites: AC power is available at some plots (such as hammock sites), up to 1,200W
- Wi-Fi: Only available near the reception area (SSID: CAMP-GUEST, using WEP key authentication, so you'll need to set up the connection yourself—no staff support provided)
- Cooking area: Hot water taps available
- Shop: Firewood, charcoal, seasonings, fuel, and phone charging available
Since the Wi-Fi is limited to the area near reception and requires you to set up the connection yourself, it felt less like a "safety net for emergencies" and more like something worth looking up the connection method for in advance.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
Since I was already looking into this, I decided to actually enter the facility's address into the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation" tool to check.
However, the result just kept showing "Currently under temporary maintenance," and no actual determination came up.
Other addresses I tried showed results just fine, so this facility's address might just happen to be excluded for some reason.
If you're curious, it's probably worth checking with the official tool yourself.
- Some comments online (secondhand info) mentioned that calls, video streaming, and data all worked fine
- Other comments mentioned that even when signal was a concern, the facility's free Wi-Fi could be used to stay connected

It was a bit surprising that the official tool didn't give a result.
Having Wi-Fi as an option is nice, but since connecting seems to require setting things up in advance, if it's a concern for you, it's probably worth trying the official tool yourself.
I use Rakuten Mobile on a regular basis, so this kind of low-key signal check has become a total habit for me. If you're not using it yet, it might be worth taking a look at the official site whenever you're considering signing up.
Nearby Spots Worth Visiting While You're at It
- Nagatoro Iwadatami and Nagatoro Gorge (5–10 min by car): a scenic spot along the Arakawa River
- Nagatoro Line River Boat Tour / Rafting (5–10 min by car)
- Hodosan Shrine and Hodosan Ropeway (10 min by car)
- Asami Reizo Kanazaki Main Store (5–10 min by car): shaved ice made with natural ice
- Chichibu Onsen Mangan no Yu / Seine no Yu (15–20 min by car): for those who want a proper soak in a bath
- Michi-no-Eki Minano roadside station (10 min by car)
- Chichibu Railway's SL Paleo Express: the closest steam locomotive to central Tokyo
- Saitama Prefectural Museum of Natural History (10 min by car): a museum located at the birthplace of geology in Japan
If you want to factor in a hot spring too, combining the campsite's showers with a nearby hot spring seems like the most realistic approach.
Wrapping Up
To sum up, Nagatoro Auto Campsite has solid restrooms, Wi-Fi, and powered sites, and the facilities looked fairly friendly even for an indoor-type beginner like me.
Since bathing is limited to hot water showers, if you want a proper soak in a hot spring, it seems like a good idea to plan on combining it with one of the nearby hot springs.
As for signal conditions, since even the official tool didn't return a result, if this concerns you, it might be reassuring to try the official area-confirmation tool yourself before booking.
No signal result came up for Nagatoro Auto Campsite, but results often do show up for other areas, so if this is something you're curious about, it might be worth first trying it out for your own everyday living area.
