I Looked Into Shibahara Onsen Teuchi Soba no Yado Yanagiya
2026-08-31

This blog has mostly been about researching day-trip hot springs and lodging facilities that seem reachable without a car, but this time I'm changing direction a bit and taking a look at a hot spring inn in Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture.
The reason is pretty simple: I'm a bit of a sucker for the phrase 'handmade soba.' As someone who loves soba, hearing that an inn serves noodles freshly made that same day is enough to make me want to dig in and research it. So this time, I looked into Shibahara Onsen Teuchi Soba no Yado Yanagiya.
It looks like a hot spring inn tucked away in the mountains of Chichibu, where you can enjoy homemade handmade soba made by the owner along with a cypress open-air bath in a wooden bathhouse.
According to Rakuten Mobile's official tool, the signal strength here came back as a C rating.
I've put together the details below.
An Inn Where You Can Enjoy Soba and the Bounty of the Mountains
Shibahara Onsen Teuchi Soba no Yado Yanagiya is apparently an inn located in the Arakawa-Niekawa area of Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. As the name suggests, the handmade soba made by the owner seems to be the signature dish, with seasonal menu items like tree-bud soba and walnut-sauce soba also available. Beyond soba, it seems you can also enjoy dishes made with wild mountain vegetables and herbs, river fish such as char, and wild boar hot pot, giving off the impression of a meal that really fits a mountain inn.
Check-in is apparently between 3:00 and 6:00 PM, with check-out by 10:00 AM. The rate for one night with two meals seems to range from around 8,900 yen to about 23,900 yen per adult, depending on the plan, room, and season. There's also a weekday-only day-trip plan that combines handmade soba for lunch, a bath, and rest in a guest room, starting from around 5,000 yen per person. It's nice that there's an option for people who want to stop by without staying overnight.
As for reservations, it seems you can book through the reservation/inquiry form on the official website, as well as by phone. You can also apparently book through various travel booking sites such as Rakuten Travel and Jalan, so it might be worth checking whichever service you normally use.
Checking Out the Cypress Open-Air Bath in the Wooden Bathhouse and the Room Amenities
The bath apparently uses simple sulfur spring water from Shibahara Onsen, heated and circulated through filtration. The open-air bath is a cypress bath set inside a wooden bathhouse, and there's also apparently a large indoor cypress bath. If you can soak in a mountain hot spring surrounded by the scent of cypress wood, that alone sounds like it would make for a calming stay.
Here's what I found out about the guest rooms:
- Number of rooms: 10 rooms total (Japanese-style), with 5 rooms having a toilet only and 5 rooms having both a bath and toilet
- In-room amenities: TV, individual air conditioning, refrigerator, hair dryer, and a washlet-style toilet all seem to be included
- Meal style: dinner is served in your room or a private dining room, while breakfast is served in a hall or dining area
- Wi-Fi: I couldn't find any mention of this in the amenities listings on major booking sites or official information, so the details are unclear
As someone who's more of an indoor type, I was a little concerned that the presence of Wi-Fi wasn't clearly stated. When planning your visit, it might be a good idea to check directly with the inn beforehand.

Just imagining a cypress bath in a wooden bathhouse is enough to make me feel a bit more relaxed. A day of eating soba and soaking in a hot spring, and nothing else, doesn't sound bad at all.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
I checked the location of this facility (the Arakawa-Niekawa area of Chichibu City) using the official "my Area Communication Simulation" tool, and the overall rating came back as "C."
Given that it's located in a mountainous area, this result suggests it's worth checking the network conditions in advance. Rather than relying too heavily on connectivity during your stay, it might be reassuring to save any necessary information beforehand so you're not stuck if you end up offline.

Hearing "C rating" does make me brace myself a little, but looking at it another way, it could also mean I can focus on the soba and the hot spring without worrying about signal at all.
I Also Looked Into Nearby Attractions and Roadside Rest Stops
Around the inn, Mitsumine Shrine is apparently about a 30- to 40-minute drive away, and Chichibu Shrine is about 20 to 25 minutes away. A bit closer, roughly a 10-minute drive, Hosshoji Temple, the 32nd temple on the Chichibu pilgrimage route, could also be a candidate. As for roadside rest stops, Michi-no-Eki Arakawa is about a 5- to 10-minute drive, and Michi-no-Eki Ohtaki Onsen is about 20 minutes away, both within easy reach. Since I don't drive myself, securing transportation to get there is the first challenge, but it seems worth checking the official website in advance for shuttle service or other transportation options.
Wrapping Up
To sum it up, Shibahara Onsen Teuchi Soba no Yado Yanagiya left me with the impression of a hot spring inn in Chichibu, memorable for its handmade soba made by the owner and its cypress open-air bath in a wooden bathhouse. With mountain vegetable dishes, river fish, and wild boar hot pot also on offer, it seems like a good fit for anyone looking forward to enjoying the food.
Also, the Rakuten Mobile signal check came back with a C rating. It might be reassuring to plan ahead regarding connectivity during your stay. If you're concerned, it seems like a good idea to check using Rakuten Mobile's official tool.
