I Looked Into Retreat Field Mahora Inahoyama

I've been steadily continuing my project of researching campgrounds, day-trip hot springs, and lodging facilities one by one and writing them up on this blog. This time, as part of that ongoing effort, I found a facility that caught my interest, so I looked into it.

This time, I looked into Retreat Field Mahora Inahoyama. The name itself stuck with me, and since it's located in the Chichibu area of Saitama, with a location that seems easy to combine with sightseeing around the Nagatoro area, I decided to dig in and check it out in detail.

The Short Version

My impression was that this is a campground with a multipurpose restroom, where families can feel comfortable spending time.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool didn't return a result, so it seems like a good idea to check for yourself beforehand.

I've put together the details below.

What Kind of Place Is Retreat Field Mahora Inahoyama?

This is a campground located in Minano Town, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture. It apparently used to be known under a different name, something like Mukuge Nature Park. It operates nearly year-round, from mid-January through late December, and it seems to be closed every Tuesday (or the following day if Tuesday is a public holiday). From June 2025 onward, it may also be closed on the first Wednesday of the month, so it seems worth checking the schedule before visiting.

Here's a rough summary of what I found out about fees and reservations:

  • Admission fee (maintenance cooperation fee): apparently 500 yen for junior high school age and up, free for elementary school age and under
  • Campsite: each site accommodates up to 5 people, with rough rates of 5,000 yen on weekdays and 6,000 yen on weekends/holidays (there also seems to be a solo-use rate)
  • Log cabins and cottages: apparently starting from 23,000 yen per unit on weekdays
  • Reservations: besides the reservation form on the official website, there are apparently several other booking channels such as Nap, Rakuten Travel, and Jalan, and phone reservations are also available
  • Booking opens: reservations apparently open at midnight on the 1st of the month, two months before the intended date of use

Check-in for camping is basically from 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM, and for cottages and log cabins from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, though there's apparently also a plan that allows early check-in starting from the park's 9:00 AM opening time.

Being able to use early check-in from 9 AM is a nice point. As an indoor type, I feel like arriving early in the morning and being able to get set up without rushing sounds really nice.

Checking the Facilities That Matter to an Indoor Type Like Me

When someone like me, an indoor type, looks into a campground, the first things I want to check are the restroom and bathing facilities. This facility apparently has flush toilets with washlets throughout, plus a multipurpose restroom and a wheelchair-accessible restroom. It also seems to be certified as a baby-friendly rest stop, so my impression is that it should be comfortable for families with small children too.

Here are the other facilities I found out about:

  • Wi-Fi: apparently free to use throughout the grounds
  • Power outlets: the campsites themselves don't have power hookups, but outlets are apparently provided inside the cottages and log cabins
  • Showers: there's a hot water shower room, and the cottages and log cabins apparently also have their own bathtubs inside (there doesn't seem to be a shared hot spring or communal bath on-site)
  • Food: there's a cafe and a kitchen shop on the grounds, so it seems unlikely you'd have trouble finding something to eat
  • Rental gear: there seems to be a full lineup available, including fire pits, BBQ grills, and cooking equipment, so it looks easy to visit with minimal gear of your own

One thing to note is that since the grounds are located on a mountain slope, part of the path to the sites is apparently unpaved and has some incline. While facilities like the multipurpose restroom themselves are accessible, my impression is that a bit of caution may be needed when moving around with a stroller or wheelchair.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

When I checked this facility's location using the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation" tool, no result was shown — instead, it just displayed a notice saying something like "currently undergoing temporary maintenance," so I wasn't able to check the signal conditions.

It seems like this kind of message can appear when address data isn't available for a given location, so for this post I'm treating the signal conditions as undeterminable (unknown). I couldn't find any basis for saying definitively whether it's good or bad.

Seeing an "undeterminable" result like this makes me feel like it's the kind of thing that happens with campgrounds tucked away in the mountains. Since I can't actually go there myself, I'd really love for anyone who does visit to let me know what they find out on-site.

I Also Took a Quick Look at Nearby Spots to Visit

There seem to be a few sightseeing spots in the Nagatoro area near this facility. Classic spots like Mount Hodo, Hodosan Shrine, and the Nagatoro rock formations along with the river rafting are apparently about a 10 to 15 minute drive away. If you're looking for a hot spring, Chichibu Onsen Manganno Yu is also around a 10 to 15 minute drive, and Michi-no-Eki Minano is about a 5 to 10 minute drive, so it seems like a nice option to stop by before or after camping.

Wrapping Up

To sum it up again, my impression of Retreat Field Mahora Inahoyama is that it's a campground fully equipped with a multipurpose restroom, and one that families should find comfortable to spend time at. In terms of facilities, things like Wi-Fi and rental gear also seem well-stocked, so it strikes me as a place that even camping beginners could use comfortably.

On the other hand, as for Rakuten Mobile signal conditions, even the official tool came back with an undeterminable result. Since it's not possible to say for sure whether it's good or bad, if you're actually considering visiting, it might be reassuring to check the official tool yourself before heading out.
