I Looked Into Chichibu Tomoegawa Auto Campsite
2026-09-05

This blog is where I research and record information about campsites, day-trip hot springs, and lodging. This time marks another entry in my ongoing look at facilities in the Saitama area.
This time I looked into Chichibu Tomoegawa Auto Campsite. I came across information suggesting it has a 24-hour coin-operated hot water shower, and since I'm an indoor type who cares about bathing situations first, that's what got me digging into it.
There's a 24-hour coin-operated hot water shower, so being able to wash up after working up a sweat or early in the morning seems like a reassuring point.
The Rakuten Mobile signal came back as a C rating on the official tool, so it seems worth checking connectivity in advance.
I've summarized the details below.
What Kind of Place Is Chichibu Tomoegawa Auto Campsite?
This is a campsite located in Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture, and apparently the Arakawa Fossil Beds spread out right next to the facility. It also seems to be part of the Special Natural Monument known as the Ancient Chichibu Bay Fossil Site, so it looks like a campsite where you can enjoy scenery along the river.
Regarding operating periods, I found conflicting information across my research. Some sources say it's open year-round (with irregular closures), while others say it operates seasonally from mid-March through November 30th. I couldn't confirm which is accurate in this investigation, so it seems safest to check in advance if you're considering a visit.
There are several types of sites available—auto sites, river sites, caravan sites, dome sites, and bungalows—with prices apparently ranging from about 5,800 to 12,000 yen depending on the site. It also seems to accommodate day camping, so it looks like it could work well for those who want to use it without staying overnight.

It's a bit concerning that the operating period is listed differently across sources. It seems like the most reliable approach would be to confirm it when you call to make a reservation.
Checking the Facilities That Matter to an Indoor Type Like Me
As for bathing, there's no bath with a tub, but instead there's apparently a coin-operated hot water shower available 24 hours a day. At a rate of 200 yen for 6 minutes, being able to use it any time without worrying about hours feels like a great feature if you want to quickly rinse off sweat before bed or early in the morning.
Summarizing the facilities, here's what I was able to confirm:
- Restrooms: Flush toilets with heated washlet seats, apparently.
- Power sites: Available by reservation, with an additional usage fee of about 1,000 yen.
- Wi-Fi: Not available on-site, apparently.
- Shower: Coin-operated hot water shower available (200 yen for 6 minutes, usable 24 hours a day)
- Shop/vending machines: Firewood, charcoal, fire starters, and ice are sold, and there's also apparently a vending machine for soft drinks.
- Other: There's a cooking area, a trash disposal area using designated bags, playground equipment like swings and slides, and it looks like rental items such as tents and tarps are also available.
The lack of Wi-Fi is a bit of a concern, but being able to use a power site seems handy if you want a break in between working remotely. Reservations can apparently also be made by phone, and it seems reservations open starting on the 1st of the month, one month before your intended stay.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
I checked this facility's location (Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture) using the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation," and the overall rating came back as a C.
With a C rating, it seems wise to give yourself some leeway regarding connectivity. Being located along the Arakawa River with mountains nearby might also be affecting the signal conditions. If you need a way to stay in contact, it seems safest to check in advance.

A C rating honestly isn't a great result. If you're someone like me who relies on a smartphone for staying in touch, it might be reassuring to check with the official tool beforehand.
Nearby Sightseeing Spots and Hot Springs
Besides the Arakawa Fossil Beds right next to the facility, there are quintessential Chichibu sightseeing spots scattered around the area, including Chichibu Muse Park about 7 minutes away by car, and Hitsujiyama Park (Shibazakura Hill) and Chichibu Shrine about 10 to 15 minutes away.
If you want to enjoy an extra bath, options include Tomoegawa Kosen about 3 minutes away by car, Seibu-Chichibu Ekimae Onsen Matsuri no Yu about 10 minutes away, and Seion no Yu and Manganno Yu about 20 minutes away. For shopping, both Michi-no-Eki Chichibu and Michi-no-Eki Arakawa are apparently about 10 minutes away.
Wrapping Up
To sum it up, my impression of Chichibu Tomoegawa Auto Campsite is that it stands out for its 24-hour coin-operated hot water shower, letting you wash up without worrying about the time. There's also a good variety of site types, and it accommodates day camping, so it seems easy to choose an option that fits your situation.
On the other hand, the lack of Wi-Fi and the conflicting information about operating periods are things I'd recommend confirming in advance, such as by phone. The Rakuten Mobile signal also came back as a C rating, so if connectivity is a concern for you, it seems worth checking with the official tool.
