I Looked Into Chichibu Kawabata Onsen Bon no Yu

I've been gradually researching and writing about not just campgrounds, but also day-use hot springs and hot-spring-cation spots you can stop by on your way home. I've lost count of how many facilities in the Chichibu area I've looked into by this point.

This time, the place that caught my attention was Chichibu Kawabata Onsen Bon no Yu. It apparently has an auto campsite attached nearby, and I was drawn to the idea that you could stop by right after camping, so I decided to look into it. As someone who's more of an indoor type, the info about private baths was what got my attention the most.

The Short Version

There are apparently several types of private rooms with private baths available, so it sounds like a setup where you can soak in the hot spring at your own pace without worrying about other people.
The Rakuten Mobile signal came back with an AA rating in the measurement, which is a solid result.

I've put together the details below.

What Kind of Place Is Chichibu Kawabata Onsen Bon no Yu?

It's apparently a day-use hot spring facility located in the Kobashira area of Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Business hours run from 9 AM to 10 PM (last entry at 9 PM, bath usage until 9:45 PM), and it seems to be open every day of the year. Pricing is split between weekdays and weekends/holidays; for the free-time option, it looks like adults pay 990 yen on weekdays and 1,090 yen on weekends and holidays. There also seems to be a discounted rate for entry after 7 PM, so that's worth keeping in mind if you're planning to stop by in the evening.

The water quality is described as a sodium chloride-bicarbonate cold mineral spring, said to be one of the more highly concentrated sodium bicarbonate springs in the Kanto region. It's known as a beauty-skin bath with a smooth, silky feel, and the property apparently has two separate spring sources. The main indoor bath and the open-air bath are each separated by gender, and the open-air bath reportedly faces the clear waters of the Arakawa River. Being able to soak while actually listening to the murmur of the river sounds like it would make for quite a luxurious experience.

An open-air bath where you can look out at the Arakawa River—just that alone makes me want to go. I don't drive myself, so I'd probably end up tagging along as a passenger, but even so, it sounded plenty appealing.

Checking Out the Facilities: Private Baths, Saunas, and Even Stone Sauna

The first thing that caught my attention on the facilities side was the reservation-based private rooms. There are two types: private rooms with an indoor private bath, and private rooms with an open-air private bath, and each seems to be bookable in 2-hour slots (starting at 9:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 3:30 PM, or 6:30 PM). The rooms with an indoor private bath start from 2,900 yen per room, while the ones with an open-air private bath start from 5,990 yen per room, and both types can apparently accommodate up to 5 people. They also come equipped with air conditioning, a TV, AC outlets, and a hair dryer, which seems great if you want a family or group experience similar to staying at a hot spring inn. Reservations can apparently be made by phone as well.

There appear to be two types of saunas: a high-temperature type (90–100°C) and a low-temperature type (50–60°C, including a mist sauna and foot-bath style). On top of that, there's an indoor stone sauna area using insulating paint and minerals, with 10 beds available, which can be used for an additional 500 yen. The resting area throughout the building is apparently one large tatami-floored hall, so it seems like a nice spot to just lie down and relax after a bath. At the on-site restaurant, Bon no Yu Dining, they offer set meals, soba, and rice bowls, and there are reportedly terrace seats overlooking the Arakawa River as well.

A Great Location for a Hot-Spring-Cation, Close to Campgrounds and Roadside Stations

This facility is part of an area called Bon no Yu Village, which also apparently includes an auto campsite and a dog run with hot spring access. It may well have been built with the idea that people could wash off the day's sweat at the hot spring right after camping. Nearby attractions include Sengen Shrine, associated with the historic Wadokaichin coin, the Wado Ruins, and Mino-yama Park, and it looks like you could also head out to Nagatoro Gorge or Hodosan Shrine with a 15–20 minute drive. The roadside stations Michi-no-Eki Minano and Michi-no-Eki Chichibu also seem relatively close by, so it looks like an easy spot to work into a day-trip drive.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

When I checked this facility's location using the official "My Area Connectivity Simulator," the overall rating came back as AA. As a Rakuten Mobile user myself, this seems like a useful data point to have.

With a rating like that, it seems unlikely you'd run into major trouble even if you're watching videos or checking social media inside the building. Of course, there could be some variation depending on the building's structure and your exact spot, but it seemed like more than enough to use as a general guide.

Seeing that AA rating made me feel like even someone like me—a non-driver just riding along and casually scrolling on my phone—could feel pretty at ease.

Wrapping Up

To sum it all up, my impression of Chichibu Kawabata Onsen Bon no Yu is that it's a hot spring facility with everything from private rooms with baths to an open-air bath, where you can relax and take your time while enjoying the view of the Arakawa River. Since there's an auto campsite attached, it also seems like an easy candidate to stop by right after camping. The Rakuten Mobile signal came back with an AA rating, but if you're concerned about it, it might be reassuring to check for yourself using the official tool.
