I Looked Into Koraku Onyado Fuji Ginkei

Beyond just campsites, this blog has been running an ongoing series of sorts looking into inns for those "let's skip camping and do a hokansu (hotel + vacance) instead" kind of days.

This time I looked into Koraku Onyado Fuji Ginkei, located in the Fuji-Kawaguchiko Onsen area of Yamanashi Prefecture. I heard it's an inn where you can see Mt. Fuji across Lake Kawaguchi, so I figured it was worth organizing what I found.

The Short Version

This looks like an inn that puts a lot of emphasis on views, with Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi visible from nearly every room.
However, the official Rakuten Mobile tool gave this location a C rating, which isn't great.

I've put together the details below.

What Kind of Place Is Koraku Onyado Fuji Ginkei

This is a hot spring inn in the Fuji-Kawaguchiko Onsen area. It seems the name was written slightly differently in the past, but it currently operates under the name Koraku Onyado Fuji Ginkei. It has 33 rooms total, and appears to be about a 5-minute shuttle ride from Kawaguchiko Station. For those traveling by train, the guidance suggests taking the Chuo Line limited express from Shinjuku to Otsuki Station, then transferring to the Fujikyu Line to reach Kawaguchiko Station.

As for room rates, I couldn't find a unified price list on the official website, and prices seem to vary depending on the booking site. As a rough guide, some plans start in the twenty-thousand-yen range per room per night, but this likely fluctuates by season and plan, so it seems safest to check the latest prices on a booking site. Reservations can apparently be made either through the external booking system on the official website or by phone. There's free outdoor parking with no reservation needed, which seems convenient for those driving (I don't actually drive much myself, so if I went, I'd probably rely on the shuttle bus).

Having a Mt. Fuji view from nearly every room sounds pretty appealing to me as an indoor type. It seems like the scenery would be complete just by staying in the room.

Rooms and Hot Springs, Points of Interest for an Indoor Type

The rooms are broadly divided into four categories. The top-floor Bettei Rin rooms apparently come with a washlet, shower room, and mist sauna, while the special rooms called Ginkei and Koraku come with a bath and toilet. There are also Japanese-Western style rooms renovated in 2023, plus Japanese-style rooms available only on the 5th floor, so the level of amenities seems to vary quite a bit depending on the room. All rooms reportedly come with a hairdryer, a set of loungewear, and a tea set, among other basics, so it seems like you could go with minimal luggage.

The hot spring is called Reisui no Yu Asakawa, and is classified as a simple thermal spring containing calcium, sodium, sulfate, and chloride. From the top-floor open-air observation bath called Fujimi no Yu, you can apparently enjoy views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi, as well as night views and sunrises. The large communal bath, called Meiseki Buro, is said to be built surrounded by rock walls. Bathing hours run from check-in until midnight, and from 5:00 to 9:30 the following morning, with no swap between the men's and women's baths, it seems. I couldn't find any mention of private baths on the official website, so if you're hoping to use one, it's probably worth checking in advance.

For meals, dinner is a kaiseki course called Shunsai no Zen, and it doesn't appear to be a buffet style. You can also apparently add extra dishes like sirloin steak or horse sashimi. Breakfast reportedly includes hoto, a Yamanashi specialty noodle dish, which struck me as a nice touch of local flavor. The inn also seems to have a lobby, a gift shop, a game corner, and a ping-pong table, so there looks to be plenty to do outside the room as well. I couldn't find any clear mention of Wi-Fi availability on the official website, so I'll leave that point as unconfirmed for now.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

When I checked this facility's location using the official My Area Connectivity Simulation tool, the overall rating came back as "C."

The Fuji-Kawaguchiko area is surrounded by mountains and lakes, which might be why signal conditions tend to vary quite a bit there. Since I also couldn't confirm whether in-house Wi-Fi is available from the official website, I think it's worth keeping this in mind ahead of time if connectivity matters to you.

Hearing about a C rating makes me a little uneasy, but I think reporting these results honestly is what this blog is for. As a Rakuten Mobile user myself, I feel like checking in advance would be essential if I were to go.

Checking Out Nearby Sightseeing Spots Too

Within a somewhat walkable distance, the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum appears to be about 980 meters from the facility, and it's also apparently a stop along the shuttle bus route. The Kubota Itchiku Art Museum and a nature center by Lake Kawaguchi also seem to be included on the shuttle bus route, and for someone like me who doesn't drive, having that shuttle bus service feels like a huge help. Spots like the Kachikachiyama Ropeway, Fuji-Q Highland, the Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba folk village, and Oshino Hakkai also came up as standard attractions in the area, though I wasn't able to dig up specific travel times, so it's probably best to check with local guides when you visit.

Wrapping Up

Summing it all up, my impression of Koraku Onyado Fuji Ginkei is that its biggest appeal is the view, with Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi visible from nearly every room. The hot springs and meals also seem substantial, making it well-suited for a trip where you just want to hole up and relax in your room. That said, the Rakuten Mobile signal came back with a C rating, so if connectivity matters to you, it might be worth checking the official tool for a location close to your destination beforehand.
