Looking Into Hotel Rosso Karuizawa
2026-10-02

I've been working through a little series on places that are easy to reach without a car, like campsites, hot springs, and hotels.
This time I looked into Hotel Rosso Karuizawa. I have a driver's license but I don't actually drive, so being able to walk to it from a Shinkansen station is what caught my eye.
It's about a 5-minute walk from the north exit of Karuizawa Station, and it's a smallish hotel with just 33 rooms, so it gave me the impression of being easy to use if you want to base yourself in Karuizawa without a car.
For Rakuten Mobile, the official tool's rating came out as "C". Apparently free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, so I'd want to lean on that too.
I've put the details together below.
What Kind of Place Is Hotel Rosso Karuizawa?
It's a hotel in Karuizawa Town, in Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture. Its concept seems to be "comfortable stays" and "convenience for having fun." It looks like a practical hotel close to the station, aimed at travelers who move around from the Karuizawa Station area.
- Number of rooms: 33 in total (apparently stated on the official rooms page)
- Facilities: All rooms are non-smoking, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, it seems
- Booking: Online booking on the official website and an official app were listed
- Rates: I couldn't find specific prices on the official website. There seem to be a plan for guests aged 25 and under (15% off the standard plan), an early-bird plan that gets cheaper if you book 30 days ahead, and a same-day-only plan you can book until 11 p.m.
- Check-in and check-out times: I couldn't confirm these on the official website
The official website is here. For rates and times, it's probably safest to check the latest info before booking.

I'm not great with crowded places, so a size like 33 rooms sounds calming to me, and it piqued my interest.
Seven Room Types and In-House Services for Homebodies
Apparently there are seven room types in total. Sizes and capacities were listed as follows.
- FAMILY TWIN ROOM (Japanese-Western style room): 31.5 m² for 2 to 4 guests. It has a separate bath and toilet, and apparently a tatami area
- SUPERIOR TWIN ROOM: 24 m² for 2 to 3 guests
- DOUBLE ROOM: 15.9 m² for 1 to 2 guests
- STANDARD TWIN ROOM: 18.8 m² for 1 to 2 guests
- HOLLYWOOD TWIN ROOM: 19.6 m² for 1 to 2 guests. It has a separate bath and toilet, and apparently a washing area
- HOLLYWOOD TWIN ROOM PLUS+: 22.5 m² for 2 to 3 guests
- UNIVERSAL TWIN ROOM (barrier-free): 21.2 m² for 1 to 2 guests. It has a separate bath and toilet, and a bathroom that wheelchairs can enter, it seems
The building is reinforced concrete, and the rooms, lobby, and hallways are described as having custom-made long-pile carpet. That might appeal to anyone who wants a quiet stay.
For the in-house services, here are the ones that caught my eye from the "I want to stay holed up in the hotel" point of view.
- Welcome drinks: Coffee, tea, and water are available 24 hours from a machine on the first floor, it seems
- Breakfast: A light breakfast of bread and drinks, served from 7:00 to 9:30. It seems to have become a paid service for stays from April 1, 2026, but I couldn't confirm the price on the official website
- Other facilities: A coin laundry, dry cleaning (closed Sundays and holidays), and a hyperbaric oxygen box (paid) were listed
- Bicycle rental: Paid rentals of mini-velo style bikes, first come, first served. Apparently it's suspended in winter
- Drying room for skis and snowboards: There's one on the premises that apparently also allows waxing
I couldn't find any mention of shared bathing facilities like a large public bath or hot spring on the official website. The rooms seem to have unit baths, so if bathing matters to you, it would be good to check in advance.
Walkable From the Station, with Easy Access Even Without a Car
By train, it's about a 5-minute walk from the north exit of Karuizawa Station on the Shinkansen. From Tokyo Station, it's listed as about 1 hour 20 minutes on the Hokuriku Shinkansen. As a driver in name only, I found it reassuring that I could get there just by taking the Shinkansen and walking from the station.
By car, about 2.5 hours from central Tokyo seems to be the guideline. From the Tokyo direction, the route given was Nerima I.C, Kan-etsu Expressway, Fujioka JCT, Joshin-etsu Expressway, Usui-Karuizawa I.C, then Prefectural Route 43 (about 25 minutes).
- Parking: Free for one vehicle per room for hotel guests, available from 10:30 on the day of the stay. It's first come, first served, and apparently when it's busy you may be directed to a parking lot off the premises. I couldn't confirm the capacity on the official website
- EV standard charging stand: Available
- Shuttle service and whether pets are allowed: I couldn't find any mention on the official website
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
I entered this hotel's location in Karuizawa Town into the official "my Area Network Simulation" tool, and the overall rating showed up as "C" (checked on October 2, 2026).
Based on this result, it seems like it would be reassuring to prepare ahead for Rakuten Mobile signal depending on the situation. Things like maps, transit directions, and checking your reservation details might be easier to take care of while you're still around the station. Free Wi-Fi is apparently available inside the hotel, so it seems easy to plan on using Wi-Fi for working or watching videos in the room.
Signal conditions also seem to vary with the season, the exact spot, and whether you're indoors or outdoors. If you're curious, please check again with Rakuten Mobile's official "my Area Network Simulation".

The rating was C, but since there's apparently free Wi-Fi in the building, I think I could count on that for working or watching videos in the room.
Wrapping Up
To sum up, my impression of Hotel Rosso Karuizawa is that it's a compact hotel about a 5-minute walk from the north exit of Karuizawa Station, which looks easy to use as a base in Karuizawa even without a car.
- It has 33 rooms across 7 types, so it looks easy to choose from whether you're traveling solo or with family
- Apparently there's free Wi-Fi throughout the building and welcome drinks available 24 hours
- I couldn't confirm things like whether there's a large public bath, the rates, or the check-in time on the official website, so it seems wise to check before booking
- For Rakuten Mobile, the official tool's rating was "C". If you're curious, it would be good to check with the official tool
