I Looked Into Torinome River Park Auto Campsite

On this blog, I keep researching campsites and day-trip hot springs one by one and writing articles about them. This time it's the Nasushiobara area in Tochigi Prefecture.

Nasushiobara has always had a strong image of day-trip hot springs for me, but when I found out there's an auto campsite in a river park, I got curious about what kind of facility it is and decided to look into it.

The Short Version

My impression was that this is a campsite with a wide range of site options—from auto campsites to free sites, RV sites, cottages, and pet sites—fitting for a river park.
The Rakuten Mobile signal came back as a C rating in this check, so it might be a bit unstable depending on where you are on the site.

I've summarized the details below.

What Kind of Place Is Torinome River Park Auto Campsite?

Apparently, this is an auto campsite located within a park along a river in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture. According to the official website, it seems to be open year-round, but I couldn't find any clear mention of whether it closes over the New Year holidays, so that remains unconfirmed. If you need to book, it might be reassuring to check the official website for the latest information beforehand.

Check-in for auto campsites, free sites, RV sites, and pet sites apparently starts at 1 PM, while cottage check-in starts at 3 PM. Check-out seems to be noon for the site-type accommodations and 10 AM for cottages. That said, the official website apparently notes that these times may change depending on circumstances, with the booking page display taking priority, so it's probably worth double-checking at the time of reservation.

Reservations appear to be primarily made online, through an external booking system. Phone inquiries also seem to be possible, but the phone number appears to be mainly provided as an emergency contact rather than for taking reservations. I couldn't find any clear mention of how many months in advance you can book, so that's also unconfirmed.

A campsite inside a river park sounds like it would have a nice open feeling, which makes me curious. I don't drive myself, so if I actually went, I'd probably have to rely on a taxi or ask someone for a ride, but just imagining it is fun.

So Many Site Types, It's Hard to Choose

  • Auto Campsite (no power): 34 sites, 5,300 yen, apparently accommodating up to 4 adults and 4 children including vehicle access to the site
  • Auto Campsite (with power): 9 sites, 6,600 yen, apparently with access to 100V/15A power
  • Free Site: 50 sites total at 2,700 yen, apparently spread around an area near a pond, but vehicles can't be brought in—you use a parking lot outside the site instead
  • RV Site (with power): 3 sites, 6,600 yen, measuring 11m by 6m, which sounds easy for parking larger vehicles, though tents can't be set up—only campfires and BBQ are allowed
  • Pet Site (no power): 10 sites, 5,300 yen plus 500 yen per pet, leashes required, and pets are apparently only allowed within the pet site and on the park paths
  • Cottages: There are three types, for 6, 10, and 12 people, equipped with air conditioning, a kitchen, a TV, and so on, but bedding isn't provided and needs to be rented in advance
  • BBQ Area: There are covered and uncovered options, with pricing that seems to vary by time slot

As for bedding, it's not provided on-site even for cottages—it's only available through advance reservation rental. Same-day arrangements don't seem to be possible, so you'll need to book ahead of time.

Trash basically needs to be taken home with you, with collection only available if you're staying four consecutive nights or more. Open fires directly on the ground are apparently prohibited, so it's probably best to plan on bringing your own fire pit.

Checking the Facilities That Matter to an Indoor Type Like Me

As for showers, coin showers are apparently installed in the management building and shower room, with the official website listing a rate of 100 yen for 5 minutes (fiscal year 2025 pricing). However, there doesn't seem to be a change machine on site, so it might be reassuring to bring coins in advance.

Power outlets are apparently only available at some of the auto campsites and the RV sites, with none at the free sites or pet sites. If you want to keep charging your phone regularly, you'll probably need to choose a site with power.

As far as I could tell from checking the official website's top page and FAQ section, there's no clear mention of Wi-Fi, so whether it's provided remains unconfirmed. There are apparently some reviews saying mobile reception seems fine, but since I couldn't find official confirmation, I'll just leave that as reference information here. I also couldn't find specific details on the official website about the number of toilets or their facility level, or the operating hours for the cooking area and coin laundry, so those also remain unconfirmed.

Nearby, the day-trip hot spring Nakagawa Onsen Kaikonoyu is apparently about a 15-minute drive away, and Nasu Highland Park is about 20 minutes by car. Nasu Kanko Yana, Senbonmatsu Farm, and the roadside station Yunokashiobara also seem to be in the surrounding area, though I haven't been able to confirm the exact distances or travel times.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

When I checked this facility's location using the official "my area Coverage Simulation" tool, this check returned a C rating.

As I understand it, a C rating means there's a chance the signal might be hard to catch depending on where you are. The riverside location might also be a factor. If you're planning on doing remote work or watching videos for extended periods, it might be reassuring to check the signal conditions in advance along with choosing a site with power.

Hearing about a C rating makes me a little worried, since I use Rakuten Mobile myself, so this isn't really someone else's problem for me either. If you're planning to go, it's probably a good idea to check with the tool beforehand.

Wrapping Up

To sum it up again, my impression of Torinome River Park Auto Campsite was that it's a river park campsite offering a wide range of site types, from auto campsites to cottages and pet sites.

There were a few points where it might be reassuring to inquire before going, such as bedding rental being available only through advance reservation, and details about Wi-Fi and toilets not being confirmable from the official website. The Rakuten Mobile signal came back as a C rating, so if you're planning to rely on your connection, it's probably a good idea to check in advance using the official Rakuten Mobile tool as needed.
