Checking Out THE BASE GLAMPING ATAMI PREMIER

Checking Out THE BASE GLAMPING ATAMI PREMIER

I've been researching campgrounds, day-trip hot springs, and inns as a kind of series, always asking whether I could get there without a car. This time I picked a glamping resort in Atami as a destination for those moments when I think, "Let's skip camping today and do a hotel staycation instead."

This time I looked into "THE BASE GLAMPING ATAMI PREMIER." I have a driver's license but never drive, so I'm basically a paper driver, and what first caught my eye was that there's a shuttle from Atami Station. As an indoor type, I was also curious about the fact that every villa has a private open-air bath filled with water from the property's own hot spring.

The Short Version

All 5 villas have a private open-air bath with free-flowing water from the property's own hot spring, and apparently there's also a reservation-only shuttle from Atami Station, so it looked like an easy place to stay at even without a car.
As for the Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool didn't return a result, so the situation is unknown.

I've put the details together below.

Just 5 Fully Detached Suite Villas in Atami

This is a glamping resort in Atami, and according to the official website, the rooms are fully detached suite villas of 188 square meters each, with only 5 in total. It feels more like an inn than a campground, so in my own head I filed it under "stopover spots for a hotel staycation."

Here's the basic info, as far as I could confirm on the official website.

  • Location: Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. The top page seems to say it's "about a 5-minute walk-range from Kinomiya Shrine," but I couldn't tell what mode of transport that 5 minutes is based on
  • Check-in/check-out: Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out is at 11:00. Apparently the long-stay plan lets you stay until 17:00
  • Booking: Besides web reservations through the official booking page, it seems they also take bookings by a dedicated reservation phone line. The news section also listed Ikyu.com and Rakuten Travel as booking channels
  • Pricing: I couldn't find the room rates on the official website. It says you receive an in-house currency called "BASE COIN" at check-in to use during your stay, but the number of coins and the value weren't clear either
  • Opening date: I couldn't confirm it in the main text of the official website
  • Sister property: Apparently there's "THE BASE GLAMPING YUGAWARA" in Kanagawa Prefecture

Not knowing the price bothers me a little. It seems like I'd need to check the latest rates on the official website or a booking site before reserving.

Only 5 villas is a size I appreciate, since I'm not great with crowds. But I couldn't find the rates on the official website, so I'd definitely want to check that before booking.

Hot Spring, Sauna, and Fire Without Leaving Your Villa: Facilities for Indoor Types

What stood out most to me is that each villa has its own open-air bath attached to the room. The tub is made of Towada stone and is filled with free-flowing water from the property's own hot spring. The water type is a calcium/sodium sulfate-chloride spring, and it's apparently weakly alkaline. The source temperature and pH seemed to be written a little inconsistently across the official website. There was also a note that because the water is so hot, some of it is diluted with plain water depending on the season and weather.

Here are the main facilities I could confirm.

  • Barrel sauna and cold plunge: It seems each villa has them
  • Indoor fire pit: Described as all-weather, so it gave me the impression it's not easily affected by the weather
  • Outdoor fire pit: It seems you can also gather around a fire outside
  • Dinner: Not a set course, but a BBQ-style meal where you pick ingredients at a market
  • Breakfast: Apparently you can choose between Japanese and Western styles
  • Staying with a dog: Possible in only 1 of the 5 villas, which apparently has a dog-only open-air bath with a slightly lower temperature. I couldn't confirm conditions such as the number of dogs, size limits, or fees

Bath, sauna, and fire time all seem to be wrapped up within the grounds, so it looks like a good match for people who'd rather not wander around. On the other hand, aside from Kinomiya Shrine, I couldn't find any nearby sightseeing spots mentioned on the official website. My impression is that this is a place to enjoy the stay itself rather than going out and about.

Shuttle from Atami Station Is Reservation-Only, Plus Tips for Driving

As a paper driver, getting there is naturally what I care about most. According to the official website's FAQ, there's a shuttle service from Atami Station to the property. It's reservation-only, and it seems you enter your preferred shuttle time when you book. There also seems to be a post on the official Instagram saying they pick guests up from Atami Station in a private car. Apparently the sister property in Yugawara has no shuttle, though.

However, I couldn't confirm the shuttle's operating hours, number of runs, pickup spot, travel time, fare, capacity, or reservation deadline on the official website. Access from Kinomiya Station and travel times by taxi or on foot were also unclear. If you're planning around the shuttle, it seems safest to confirm the details when you book.

  • Train: To Atami Station, it's about 43 minutes from Tokyo Station on the Kodama Shinkansen, about 80 minutes on the Odoriko limited express, and about 100 minutes on the JR Tokaido Line
  • Car: About 120 minutes from the Tokyo area. From the Atsugi IC on the Tomei or Shin-Tomei Expressway, you take the Odawara-Atsugi Road, Manazuru Road, and the Atami Beach Line in that order, and after passing Kinomiya Shrine you'll apparently arrive in about 3 minutes
  • Parking: One space per site is free

The news section for July 2026 also seemed to include an announcement of a plan with special viewing seats and round-trip transfers, timed to the day of the Atami Marine Fireworks Festival. It may be that special plans like this show up depending on the time of year.

If I can take the Shinkansen to Atami and leave the rest to the shuttle, it feels realistic even for someone like me who doesn't drive. I'd want to check the fine print on the shuttle when I book, though.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

Since I use Rakuten Mobile, the signal is something I care about too. I entered this property's location (within Atami) into the official "my Area Communication Simulation" tool to check.

The result: no verdict was displayed, and instead I got a message saying something like "Temporarily under maintenance right now." So the overall verdict is unknown. All I'll note here is the fact that no result came up this time.

As for Wi-Fi, I also couldn't view the FAQ text on the official website, so I couldn't tell anything for sure. If you care about your connection for work or watching videos, it seems best to ask the property beforehand. Please also try the official Rakuten Mobile "my Area Communication Simulation" yourself.

Since no verdict came up at all this time, I really can't say anything about the signal. The tool's results can sometimes change if you try again on another day, so if you're curious, give it another go.

Wrapping Up

To sum it up, my impression of THE BASE GLAMPING ATAMI PREMIER is that it's a glamping resort where all 5 villas have a private open-air bath with free-flowing water from the property's own hot spring plus a barrel sauna, with a reservation-only shuttle from Atami Station, so it seems easy to get to even without a car.

On the other hand, I couldn't confirm the room rates, what BASE COIN includes, or the shuttle's operating hours and fare on the official website. The Rakuten Mobile signal situation also remains unknown, since no verdict came up this time. If you're thinking of booking, please check the latest information on the official website (https://thebase-gp.com/atami).
