A Look at KKR Hotel Atami
2026-10-07

I've been researching campsites, day-trip hot springs, and places to stay one after another, focusing on spots that seem reachable without a car.
This time I looked into KKR Hotel Atami. On days when I want to rethink a camping plan because of the weather or all the gear, a hotel close to the station where I can just chill (a "hokans" stay) seemed like a good fallback, and as an indoor type, it caught my eye.
You can enjoy a private hot spring source that wells up on the property in the 7th-floor panoramic large bath, and it's apparently a 7-minute walk from Atami Station, so it looks like an easy place to swing by even without a car.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool didn't show a result, so it came back as "unknown."
I've put the details below.
A Private Hot Spring Source on the Property, and a 7th-Floor Panoramic Large Bath
This hotel is in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture, and it's run by the Federation of National Public Service Personnel Mutual Aid Associations (KKR). According to the official website, the water is a sodium-calcium chloride spring with a temperature of 64.3 degrees C, and it's a private source that wells up on the hotel's grounds.
The bath is a panoramic large bath on the 7th floor, and apparently you get a full view of the sea. There's an open-air bath, a jacuzzi, a dry sauna, and a cold plunge, and it sounds like you can also cool off outdoors in the chairs next to the open-air bath. You can see Sagami Bay from the open-air bath, and on a clear day you can apparently see Hatsushima and Oshima islands too.
The dry sauna is designed to feel like the inside of a ship, with a temperature of around 85 degrees C, and the cold plunge was described as around 20 degrees C.
Here's what the official website says about day-trip bathing.
- Day-trip bathing hours: 11:00-20:00. There seem to be cleaning days, so it's probably best to check ahead.
- Weekends, public holidays, and fireworks festival days: it looks like they close at 15:00.
- Bath only: 1,800 yen per person.
- Bath and lunch set: 2,800 yen per person, though the price may change during peak season.
- Lunch hours: 11:30-14:00 (last order), and it's closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (except public holidays). It seems the bath and lunch set isn't available on those days either.
- Atami Citizen Appreciation Day: every Wednesday (except busy days), for junior high school students and older who live in Atami. Day-trip bathing becomes 1,200 yen, and bath plus lunch becomes 2,000 yen.
- Heads-up: people with tattoos apparently can't use the day-trip bath. It also seems that they may turn people away during busy times or for group visits.
- Reservations for day-trip bathing: I couldn't confirm on the official website whether they're required.
Overnight reservations seem to be made through the booking form on the official website. It's split into three categories: association members and alumni, discount users, and general guests, and members and the like apparently need to show ID at check-in.

I'm really drawn to the combo of an open-air bath with cooling-off chairs and a 7th floor with a sea view. That said, I'd definitely want to double-check the tattoo restriction and the differences in operation by day of the week before going.
How to Spend Time Inside, for an Indoor Type Like Me
There are 10 room types in total, and apparently every room has an ocean view. One listing mentioned a size of 14.5 tatami mats. I couldn't confirm the total number of rooms, the room rates, or the check-in and check-out times on the official website within what I looked at. If you're thinking about staying, it seems you'd need to check directly on the booking page.
For meals, they seem to offer seasonal Japanese kaiseki, Chinese cuisine, and a kids' menu. Breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet, and with the stay plans you can apparently choose either Japanese or Chinese for dinner. The first-floor restaurant, Rencontre, serves Japanese and Chinese food, and dinner is available to hotel guests only.
Here's what I found about spending time inside the hotel.
- 1st floor: there seems to be a shop. The free drink corner at the back of the lobby is for guests only, open 11:00-17:00.
- 2nd floor: apparently there's a spa and massage area, a manga corner with about 1,500 volumes, and a table tennis corner.
- Indoor heated pool: only for guests, and only in summer (July 18 to September 30, 2026). It looked like it was out of season when I checked.
My impression was that you could also spend a stay the indoor way, like reading manga after a soak.
Getting There from Atami Station, from a Paper Driver's Perspective
According to the official website's top page, it's a 7-minute walk from Atami Station. By local bus, you board at the Atami Station bus terminal, get off at the Daigaku Byoin-mae stop, and walk 1 minute from there. However, I couldn't confirm the bus ride time, the fare, or which stop to board at. I also couldn't find any information about a shuttle bus or taxis on the official website.
Parking has space for 30 cars, it's free, no reservation is needed, and hotel guests get priority. Larger vehicles, trailers, and the like apparently need to contact the hotel in advance. I don't drive, so the fact that it's within walking distance is great to know.
In the area, the official website mentions Hatsushima, which is a 30-minute ferry ride from Atami Port. I haven't been able to confirm the distance or time from the hotel to Atami Port.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
I entered this hotel's location (Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture) into the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation" to check. No result was shown, and instead I got a message saying it's currently under temporary maintenance. So the overall result is unknown.
It looked like it might be how the tool behaves when there's no data for the address, but I couldn't figure out the exact reason. So I haven't been able to tell from this research whether Rakuten Mobile connects well at this hotel.
If you're worried about signal, it might be reassuring to check with Rakuten Mobile's official tool yourself too.

As a Rakuten Mobile user, I was a little disappointed that no result came up. I couldn't confirm whether there's Wi-Fi either, so if I were planning to bring work along, I'd want to ask them beforehand.
Wrapping Up
To sum it up, my impression of KKR Hotel Atami is that it's a hotel where you can enjoy a private hot spring source that wells up on the property in the 7th-floor panoramic large bath, and it's a 7-minute walk from Atami Station, so it looks easy to get to even without a car.
Day-trip bathing is 1,800 yen, and the bath and lunch set is 2,800 yen. That said, the tattoo restriction and the fact that lunch is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays are worth keeping in mind. I couldn't confirm the room rates, check-in time, or whether day-trip bathing needs a reservation this time, so it's best to check the official website for the latest information.
