I Looked Into Senbonmatsu Onsen
2026-09-07

I've been looking into a number of day-use hot springs that seem enjoyable as a "hocance" (hotel + vacance) option, even on days when I can't go camping. This time, while searching for facilities in the Nasushiobara area of Tochigi Prefecture, I came across this one.
I had originally been checking out several communal bathhouses in the Shiobara Onsen area that I'd been curious about, but it seems like many of them are currently closed long-term due to reasons like declining water temperature, so I ended up shifting the direction of my research. That's how I found Senbonmatsu Onsen, a day-use hot spring located inside a farm. The combination of a hot spring attached to a farm where you can also interact with animals and go horseback riding genuinely caught my interest, so I put together this write-up.
It seems to be a generously equipped facility—a hot spring attached to a farm where, after bathing, you can also enjoy soft-serve ice cream and interact with animals.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool's measurement came back with a C rating, so honestly it doesn't look like there's much margin there.
I've put together the details below.
A Unique Position: A Hot Spring Inside a Farm
Senbonmatsu Onsen is apparently a day-use hot spring facility set up within the grounds of Senbonmatsu Farm in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture. The very setup of having a hot spring tucked into a corner of a spacious farm gives off a slightly different atmosphere compared to other day-use hot spring facilities.
The water quality is an alkaline simple hot spring with a pH of 9.0 (measured by the glass electrode method). The Nasushiobara Tourism Bureau's site describes it as a "beautiful skin bath" containing plant-derived moor components, and lists benefits such as relief for neuralgia, muscle pain, poor circulation, and fatigue recovery. Since it's classified as a hypotonic, alkaline, high-temperature spring, it might be the kind of water that warms you up gently and gradually.
Business hours are apparently 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM (last entry 10:30 PM), which gives the impression of staying open quite late for a day-use hot spring. However, the official site clearly states that the facility may temporarily close for emergency maintenance and similar reasons, so if you're planning a visit, it seems wise to check the facility's status beforehand. I couldn't find any clear mention of regular closing days in the site's text, and it looked like it might operate year-round, but I can't say that's confirmed information.
Admission is apparently 700 yen for adults and 250 yen for elementary school students on weekdays, and 800 yen for adults and 300 yen for elementary school students on weekends and holidays, with preschoolers admitted free. There also seems to be a 10-visit ticket for adults priced at 6,000 yen, which looks convenient for anyone living nearby who plans to visit often. The fact that entry to the farm as a whole and parking are both free might also be a nice point for anyone visiting by car. I'm a driver in name only who barely drives, so I don't have much of a mental image of visiting by car myself, but I still appreciated this free setup.

Having a hot spring right on the farm grounds felt quietly refreshing to discover while researching. I think it's fun that you could go from an animal petting area straight into a bath.
The Bath Layout and Surprisingly Full Range of Additional Services
The bathing area apparently consists of four baths in total: an open-air bath (one each for men and women) and an indoor bath (one each for men and women). Having an open-air bath suggests you might be able to bathe while enjoying the open, farm-like scenery. Also, the official site clearly states that people with tattoos are not permitted to use the facility, so that's something worth confirming beforehand.
At the attached rest area, you can apparently enjoy Senbonmatsu milk and ice cream, so the setup seems to let you go straight from bathing into enjoying farm food. There's also a foot reflexology and body treatment service with a resident practitioner, ranging from 800 yen for 10 minutes up to 4,800 yen for 60 minutes. Business hours are 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Thursdays only), with Mondays as the regular closing day, and it seems reservations can also be made by phone.
There's also a free foot bath available (open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM), apparently with the same water quality and benefits as the main hot spring. It seems designed to work well for anyone who just wants to soak their feet without taking a full bath.
The farm itself appears to have a fair number of non-hot-spring facilities as well, including a soft-serve ice cream shop, a farm shop, a restaurant, an animal petting area, horseback riding, and a road train. I got the impression that you could spend a whole day enjoying the farm and then wrap things up with a soak in the hot spring at the end.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
When I checked this facility's location using the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation" tool, the overall rating came back as "C."
Given the C rating, it seems like a good idea to check the connectivity situation in advance. Since it's located on a relatively open farm site, there may be situations where that affects how well the signal comes through. If you're planning on watching videos or doing online work, it might be reassuring to check beforehand whether it fits your intended use.

Honestly, a C rating was a bit of a letdown, but recording results like this exactly as they are is this blog's policy, so I'm sharing it plainly, without dressing it up.
Signal conditions can apparently vary depending on the device you use and the time of day, so if you're actually planning to visit, it might be reassuring to check the official tool beforehand to see whether the results match how you plan to use it.
Wrapping Up
To sum up, Senbonmatsu Onsen left me with the impression of being a hot spring inside a farm where you can enjoy not just bathing, but also the foot bath, body treatments, and farm food, all in one visit. The gentle-feeling alkaline simple hot spring water and the four-bath layout including an open-air bath also give it an atmosphere that seems easy to drop by on your way back from the farm.
The Rakuten Mobile signal check came back with a C rating, so it seems worth confirming connectivity in advance. If you're considering a visit, preparing with this in mind as well might give you some peace of mind.
