I Looked Into Ryu no Kuni Auto Campsite

On this blog, I've been steadily working my way through a series covering campsites and day-trip hot springs, and this time I decided to look into the Nasushiobara area of Tochigi Prefecture.

What got me started was the phrase "game meat BBQ." I heard you could enjoy a gear-free BBQ plan using bear, wild boar, and deer meat, and even as someone who's more of an indoor type, that caught my interest—so I looked into Ryu no Kuni Auto Campsite.

The Short Version

This looked like a campsite with impressively solid facilities—every auto site comes with a power outlet, and there's a gear-free camping option with a choice of game meat, plus a fully reservation-based, genuine natural sauna.
As for Rakuten Mobile's signal, the official tool didn't even display a result, so honestly, at this point the truth is I just don't know.

I've laid out the details below.

What Kind of Place Is Ryu no Kuni Auto Campsite?

It's an auto campsite in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture, apparently located along the banks of the Daijabi River. It seems to operate year-round, but the official site also lists some closed days—including parts of July, late September, and certain days in October. If you already have a specific date in mind, it's probably worth checking ahead of time.

Check-in runs from 12:00 to 17:00 on weekdays and 12:00 to 18:00 on weekends and holidays, and it seems early check-in isn't allowed. Check-out is by 10:30, and late check-out doesn't appear to be an option either. It might be reassuring to build a little buffer into your schedule around those times. Reservations seem to basically go through an external site called "nap."

The official site also clearly states that the site follows a one-way traffic rule. Even as someone who doesn't drive, that detail caught my attention—I found myself wondering what the actual traffic flow looks like.

Since neither early check-in nor late check-out is allowed, honestly that's kind of reassuring for someone like me who likes to stick to a strict schedule.

Gear-Free Camping With Game Meat BBQ and a Genuine Natural Sauna

What caught my interest most at this facility was the gear-free camping plans. There are five plan types—Sora-jima, Ryugu, Yama to Hoshi (available in a 32 sq. meter and a 44 sq. meter version), and Ryutei—and each is apparently designed for one family, with a capacity of up to five people and a power outlet included. Dinner apparently comes with BBQ ingredients, and among the offerings is a game meat BBQ using bear, wild boar, and deer. Campfires also seem to be allowed, so it looks like you could go just to soak in the atmosphere without needing to gather any gear yourself. That said, the official site doesn't list pricing for each plan, so you'd probably need to check through the booking site or by phone.

Another thing that caught my eye was the "genuine natural sauna." It's fully reservation-based and can accommodate one to eight people, with a 70-minute private session that comes with one shower voucher. It's built from solid, unfinished wood, and apparently after using it you can cool off right in the adjacent Daijabi River—so it sounds like the kind of setup designed for that classic post-sauna "reset" feeling. It runs on a four-session-per-day rotation, and the operating days seem to vary by season (there were notes suggesting it's open daily in summer, but only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays otherwise), so if you're specifically planning around it, it's worth checking the schedule in advance. Also worth noting: there's no actual bathing facility on-site, and this sauna is presented as the substitute for bathing.

Facility Details Worth Noting for an Indoor Type Like Me

Every auto site apparently comes with a power outlet, which felt like a real plus for someone like me who leans indoor, especially compared to sites that only offer power-free free sites. The recommended usage is apparently in the 8A to 10A range, so it's probably best to avoid bringing overly large electrical appliances.

There are restrooms and cooking areas at four spots around the site, each apparently equipped with bidet toilets and nighttime lighting. Hot water in the cooking areas is available from April through November, but there's a note that hot water isn't available specifically in June, July, and August—worth keeping in mind if you're visiting in the peak of summer. Showers cost extra (400 yen per use), and operating hours are apparently split between morning and afternoon/evening.

Wi-Fi apparently covers most of the site, but there's also a note that each access point only covers a radius of roughly 50 meters, so it doesn't sound like uniform coverage everywhere on the grounds. Rather than relying on it heavily for remote work, it's probably better treated as a backup while checking the access point locations on the map. The shop is next to the management building and apparently carries daily necessities, drinks, and camping supplies.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

When I tried checking this facility's location using the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation" tool, no actual result showed up at all—instead it fell back to a message saying "currently undergoing temporary maintenance." It seems this kind of fallback can happen when address data for a given location hasn't been prepared, and in this case, I ended up with neither a good nor bad result—just an honest "I don't know."

As a Rakuten Mobile user myself, this was a bit of an inconclusive result, but I wanted to share it as-is. If you're actually planning to visit, it might be reassuring to double-check with your own device or tool right before you go.

Showing an "inconclusive" result as-is is exactly the kind of stance this blog tries to keep, so I'm sharing it honestly this time too.

Wrapping Up

Pulling it all together, Ryu no Kuni Auto Campsite left me with the impression of being a campsite with impressively solid facilities, offering power outlets at every auto site, a gear-free camping plan with game meat BBQ, and a fully reservation-based genuine natural sauna. That said, pricing for each gear-free camping plan and detailed access routes aren't listed on the official site, so you'd likely need to check the booking page through nap or call directly. Since I wasn't able to get a clear reading on the Rakuten Mobile signal this time, anyone concerned about that should probably check the official tool for themselves as well.
