Looking into Hoshino Resorts Risonare Atami

On this blog, I've been slowly looking into campsites, day-trip hot springs, and lodgings, mainly from the angle of whether you can get there without a car. This time, I picked a hotel as a little detour for those "let's skip camping today and do a hotel staycation instead" days.

This time I looked into "Hoshino Resorts Risonare Atami." As a homebody, what caught my eye was that the rooms are big and the pool and hot spring both seem to be right there in the hotel. I have a driver's license but I don't actually drive (I'm a paper driver), so I also checked whether there's a shuttle from the station.

The Short Version

It's on a hilltop with views of Atami's sea and sky, and apparently every guest room is 60㎡ or larger. There's also a free shuttle bus from Atami Station, so it seemed like an easy place to do a hotel staycation even without a car.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool's overall rating was "C." On the signal front, I probably wouldn't expect too much.

I've put the details below.

What Kind of Place Is This Hilltop Resort Overlooking the Sea and Sky?

It seems to be a hilltop resort hotel in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. The headline on the official site is something like "At a resort of sea and sky, enjoy play and relaxation however you like," and it looks like they're really promoting the panoramic view of Atami's sea and sky.
It's run by Hoshino Resorts, and there was a dedicated page for the property on the official site.

Here's the basic info, as far as I could confirm on the official site.

  • Check-in / check-out: Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out is at 12:00, apparently
  • Rooms: 81 rooms in total, accommodating 1 to 6 guests, and apparently every room is 60㎡ or larger
  • Rates: I couldn't find a per-room, per-night price on the official top page. There was a banner for a "dinner and breakfast included special offer" plan, but it looks like you'll need to check the booking page for prices by date and plan
  • Booking: It seems you book through the availability search and reservation page on the official site. Apparently there's also a phone reservation center
  • Payment: For prepayment, they apparently accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, JCB, Paidy, Eikyu Fumetsu points, and more. On-site payment is cash or credit card, it seems

The official site is here.

Every room being 60㎡ or larger is pretty reassuring for someone like me who wants to hole up in the room. The rates weren't on the official top page, so it looks like I'd need to check the booking page.

Hot Springs, Pool, and Food: What Matters to a Homebody

When I looked into the facilities, it seemed like you could spend your whole stay without going outside. Here's what the official site says.

  • Hot spring / baths: There's one semi-open-air hot spring, plus one bathing facility with a spa and massage, apparently. However, I couldn't find the water quality or the bathing hours, at least not in what I could check
  • Pool: There's one indoor pool that can be used year-round, it seems. I couldn't confirm the hours or fees
  • Restaurants: There seem to be two: a buffet with freshly made dishes and seafood, and a kaiseki restaurant using Atami's seasonal seafood such as golden alfonsino. Apparently there are also two cafes/lounges
  • Wi-Fi: Free in all guest rooms and common areas, apparently. There are also meeting rooms, it seems
  • For families: There's one kids' room, and it seems they offer family-oriented dining experiences such as baby food options. Children up to age 6 can apparently sleep with their parents, up to the same number as the room capacity
  • Pets: Pets are welcome, and the dog room apparently allows up to 2 dogs per room

With a hot spring, a pool, a buffet, and kaiseki dining all in one place, it felt like you could spend a whole day just inside the hotel. As a homebody, that's a combination that really appeals to me.

Can You Get There by Free Shuttle Bus from Atami Station? I Checked

As a paper driver, access was what I cared about most. According to the official site, it's about 15 minutes from Atami Station by free shuttle bus. It seems to run every day and requires a reservation.

  • Station to hotel: Five departures, at 14:00, 14:30, 15:00, 15:30, and 16:30, apparently. You reserve up to 20 minutes before departure on the day, at the guest-only desk in front of Atami Station
  • Hotel to station: Departures at 10:20, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, and 13:20, it seems. Reservations are first-come, first-served after check-in, and if a bus is full you may have to take the next one. Apparently delays can also happen when roads are congested
  • Luggage: The guest-only desk in front of Atami Station (10:00 to 17:00) apparently offers free luggage storage and delivery to the hotel
  • Shuttle from Kinomiya Station: It seems to be available only from August 8 to August 18, not year-round
  • Local bus / walking: I couldn't find any guidance on the official access page

There are several departures around the 15:00 check-in time, so if you're going by train, it seems easy to plan your trip around this bus. That said, the number of departures is limited, so I'd want to leave some buffer time.

If you're driving, there's parking for 50 cars, free and with no reservation needed, apparently. It seems they instruct you to enter the address into your car navigation and also set Atami Plum Garden as a waypoint. EV charging is available 24 hours, with four 200V/6kW chargers; you apply after booking your stay, and hotel guests get priority, it seems.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

I used the official "my Area Communication Simulation," entered the address of this property (in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture), and checked. I did this on October 6, 2026.
The overall rating came up as "C."

As a Rakuten Mobile user, I felt it would be wise to allow some leeway for connectivity during a stay. On the other hand, Wi-Fi is apparently free in all guest rooms and common areas, so it looks like you could use that inside the hotel. Still, connectivity while traveling or outdoors is a separate matter worth keeping in mind.

If you're worried about signal, I think it's reassuring to enter the actual address into Rakuten Mobile's official tool and check for yourself.

I was a little disappointed that the rating was C. But apparently there's Wi-Fi in the hotel, so it might be fine if I'm just staying holed up inside. If you're worried, I recommend checking with the official tool.

Wrapping Up

To sum up, my impression of Hoshino Resorts Risonare Atami is that it's a resort hotel on a hilltop with views of Atami's sea and sky, where every guest room is 60㎡ or larger and the free shuttle bus from Atami Station makes it seem easy to reach without a car.

With a hot spring, an indoor pool, a buffet, and kaiseki dining, it seems to have plenty to enjoy inside the hotel, so it caught my eye as a staycation candidate for homebodies. The shuttle bus requires a reservation and has limited departures, so I'd want to check the times in advance. The official top page didn't list a price, so it looks like you'll need to check the booking page for each date.

As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool's overall rating was "C." If you're concerned, I think it's reassuring to check ahead of time with Rakuten Mobile's official tool.
