Looking into Tokyo Okutama Onsen Okutamaji
2026-10-07

I've been researching campgrounds, day-trip hot springs, and inns that seem reachable without a car, one after another.
This time I looked into a ryokan in the Futamatao area of Ome called Tokyo Okutama Onsen Okutamaji. I thought it could be a good option for when I want to say, “Forget camping today, let's do a hotel staycation instead.” It reopened after renovations in July 2026, and when I heard it now has an open-air bath right in front of a clear stream, even a homebody like me got curious.
The renovation added an open-air bath right in front of a clear stream, plus rooms with a private bath and a private sauna, so it caught my eye as a place for a hotel staycation.
As for the Rakuten Mobile signal conditions, the official tool gave an overall rating of “C.” It seems best not to count on the signal too much.
I've put the details together below.
What Is Okutamaji Like After the Renovation?
It's a hot spring ryokan in the Futamatao area of Ome, Tokyo. According to the official website, it reopened after renovations on July 18, 2026, which marked 43 years since the original opening. It seems it used to go by a slightly different name, something like “Clear Stream Inn Okutamaji,” but the current official website calls it Tokyo Okutama Onsen Okutamaji.
Here's the basic information I could find.
- Location: Futamatao area, Ome, Tokyo
- Check-in / check-out: apparently 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM for check-in and until 11:00 AM for check-out (as listed on the online booking page)
- How to book: besides the official online booking, there also seems to be an inquiry form on the official website. It looks like you can ask by phone too, but I couldn't find a phone number on the official top page or the access page. The information was on the online booking page instead
- Connectivity: according to the online booking page, Wi-Fi is free in all rooms
- Official website: Tokyo Okutama Onsen Okutamaji

Just hearing “freshly renovated” makes a homebody like me a little restless with excitement. The one thing bugging me is that I still can't see the prices.
The New Open-Air Bath Right in Front of the Clear Stream
According to the official top page, they've added an open-air bath right in front of a clear stream, in a place that previously had no outdoor bath. The facilities list on the online booking page included hot spring, large communal bath, open-air bath, sauna, and rooms with an open-air bath.
It's the kind of setup that lets my imagination run wild, like soaking in the hot water while listening to the river. Apparently a plan where you can try activities on the Tama River is also in preparation, but no details had been posted yet.
Checking Out the Rooms for Staying In, and the Food
What caught my eye about the rooms is that they've added new suite rooms and superior rooms with a private bath and a private sauna. For a homebody who wants to hole up in a room, this seemed like a great match for a hotel staycation. There were also mentions of Japanese-style rooms and non-smoking rooms. However, I couldn't find the number of rooms or the capacity on the official website.
- Meals: apparently they serve a set meal made with local ingredients, such as grilled river fish from Okutama and local vegetables
- All-inclusive: the site says you can enjoy everything from alcohol to light snacks in the lobby
- Meal prices and serving times: I couldn't find any information
Can You Get There Without a Car? Checking the Access from Ishigamimae Station
The official top page only says “about 90 minutes from central Tokyo.” More concrete information was on the online booking page.
- By train: get off at Ishigamimae Station on the JR Ome Line and walk about 10 minutes, apparently
- From Shinjuku: it said about 70 minutes at the fastest if you take a train that runs directly onto the Ome Line
- From Ome Station: about 10 minutes by taxi, it seems
- By car: about 30 minutes from either the Ome IC or the Hinode IC on the Ken-O Expressway, apparently
As someone who has a license but basically never drives, I'm grateful that it's reachable by train and within walking distance of the station. That said, I couldn't find any mention of a shuttle bus. The official top page itself doesn't name the nearest station, and the 10-minute walk comes from the online booking page.

If I can get there from Shinjuku on the Ome Line, even a non-driver like me can easily put it on the list for a little detour.
What I Couldn't Find Out
From what I could see on the official website and the online booking page, I couldn't confirm the following.
- Room rates: the online booking page only pointed to a plan list, and I couldn't find specific prices
- Day-use baths: it seems they were offered before, but I couldn't confirm whether they're available after the renovation
- Parking: I couldn't find anything about whether there is a lot or how many cars it holds
- Nearby sightseeing and food: the official website doesn't mention them
If you're interested, it might be reassuring to check through the inquiry form on the official website before booking.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
I checked this facility's location (Futamatao, Ome) using Rakuten Mobile's official “my Area Connection Simulator.” When I ran it on October 7, 2026, the overall rating came up as “C.”
If you're worried about connectivity during your stay, this could be one thing to check beforehand. If you're planning to stream videos or work remotely, the experience could vary depending on where you are and the time of day, so it seems best to look at it with that in mind.
On the other hand, the online booking page mentioned free Wi-Fi in all rooms. I can't tell the actual speed or stability, but it could be a useful reference when checking the connection side of things.
If you're curious about the signal conditions, you can also check for yourself with Rakuten Mobile's official “my Area Connection Simulator.”

It's a bit disappointing that the rating was C. But maybe I could just accept it as a stay where I unplug and soak in the hot water.
Wrapping Up
To sum up, my impression of Tokyo Okutama Onsen Okutamaji is that it's a ryokan with a newly built open-air bath right in front of a clear stream, plus rooms with a private bath and a private sauna, which makes it easy to get interested in if you're thinking of a hotel staycation where you hole up.
It's a 10-minute walk from Ishigamimae Station on the Ome Line, apparently, and I also liked that it seems easy to get to without a car. On the other hand, I couldn't confirm things like room rates, whether day-use baths are available, or parking. As for Rakuten Mobile's signal, the official tool's overall rating was C. If you're interested, it seems like a good idea to check the latest information on the official website before booking.
