I Looked Into Minami-Aso Blue Bee Garden

This blog is where I look into and record accommodations and campsites one by one, and this time I decided to check out a glamping-style facility. I hadn't covered much of the Kyushu area yet, so I put this together partly as a way to explore a new genre for myself.

This time I looked into Minami-Aso Blue Bee Garden. It seems to offer several types of accommodation, including dome tents and sauna-equipped log cabins, and as someone who's more of an indoor type, I was curious, so I dug into the details.

The Short Version

It looks like a glamping facility in Minami-Aso where you can choose from four accommodation styles: domes, log cabins, gers, and auto-camping sites.
As for the Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool couldn't even produce a result, so I'm reporting this as "unknown" this time.

I've summarized the details below.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

Apparently this is a glamping facility located in Minami-Aso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. From what I could see on the official website, they seem particular about using locally sourced, additive-free ingredients, with meals featuring organic vegetables from Minami-Aso and seafood from Amakusa. The official site also mentions that the facility continued operating as usual even after the Kumamoto earthquake, which gave me the impression of a place deeply rooted in its local community.

Reservations seem to be accepted either online or by phone. Day-trip BBQ use is also apparently possible, bookable through a page for a BBQ house called "Caldera." As for specific check-in and check-out times, the official site's terms simply state that they're "times set by the facility," so the details seem to be left up to on-site guidance.

Seeing that line about continuing to operate even after the earthquake, I couldn't help but imagine this must be a facility that's been deeply rooted in the area for a long time.

Checking Out the Accommodation Types: Domes, Log Cabins, and Gers

There appear to be four main types of accommodation.

  • Dome tents: These are round-silhouette tents typical of glamping, accommodating anywhere from 2 to 4 guests, with the per-person rate apparently changing depending on the number of people.
  • Sauna-equipped log cabins (lodges): There seem to be two types, a tent sauna type and an old pine sauna type, mainly geared toward groups of 4 or more. These are divided into Log A and Log B, and apparently pets aren't allowed for this accommodation type.
  • Ger-style tents: Modeled after nomadic-style dwellings, these can apparently accommodate 2 to 6 guests.
  • Auto-camping sites: Each site apparently comes equipped with power and water, with the AC power listed as 100V, up to a maximum of 1,000W. The entry fee and site usage fee seem to be charged separately.

Rates for all of these seem to vary by season, and one thing worth double-checking is that the official site only lists the lower-bound price with a "starting from" notation. I also noticed a mention that a few thousand yen gets added on for the night before holidays.

There's also a dog run on the premises, and pet-friendly plans are apparently available. However, there are conditions, such as the dog being at least 4 months old and vaccinated with a 5-in-1 or higher combination vaccine, and pets are only allowed for certain ger and dome types, while Log A and B don't allow pets. If you're planning to bring your dog along, it seems worth checking the conditions in advance.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

When I checked this facility's location using Rakuten's official "My Area Connectivity Simulation" tool, no result was displayed, and instead it switched to a message saying "currently undergoing temporary maintenance." I tried several times, but got the same result each time, so this time I simply wasn't able to check the signal conditions at all.

On this point, I'll simply mark it as "unknown" for now. Since I couldn't determine whether the signal is good or unreliable, if you're actually considering staying at Minami-Aso Blue Bee Garden, it's probably worth checking the signal yourself with your own device before heading out.

This was the first time I'd seen a case where no result came up at all, so I have to admit I was a bit deflated myself. In situations like this, I think it's more honest to just write "I don't know" plainly.

Points to Watch Out for When It Comes to Access

Access seems to be based primarily on driving, and I couldn't find any information about public transportation access on the official site. According to the official site, it takes roughly 40 minutes from the Kyushu Expressway interchange, and roughly 70 minutes from the interchanges on the Chuo Kyushu Cross-Country Road or the Kyushu Chuo Expressway. As someone who barely drives despite having a license, I feel like I'd need to do a bit of preparation just for this part.

The access page on the official site also included a note that, because the facility's address is relatively new, it's sometimes not registered correctly in car navigation systems. It seems some navigation systems might direct you onto the grounds of a neighboring, separate facility instead, and I noticed a note asking visitors not to enter that property. If you're actually planning to drive there, it seems like a good idea to check the official site's access page beforehand.

Wrapping Up

To sum it up again, Minami-Aso Blue Bee Garden struck me as a glamping facility where you can choose a style to suit your preference, from domes to sauna-equipped log cabins, gers, or auto-camping sites. There also seem to be plenty of elements that reflect a strong connection to the local community, such as the locally sourced ingredients and the facility's stance of continuing to operate even after the Kumamoto earthquake. On the other hand, the official tool couldn't produce a result for Rakuten Mobile signal conditions, so this ended up as an "unknown" for this review. If you're planning an actual visit, it seems like a good idea to check the signal yourself beforehand.
