Looking into Atami Seaside Spa & Resort

This is part of my ongoing blog series on places you can probably reach without a car, like campgrounds, day-trip hot springs, and inns. Once again, I went through the official information one place at a time and sorted it out.

This time I looked into Atami Seaside Spa & Resort. I was searching for a detour for those days when I think, “Forget camping, let's do a hokans (a hotel staycation) instead.” That's when I found out there's a hot spring hotel within walking distance of Atami Station where every room has an ocean view. As an indoor type, that got my attention, so I checked it out, mostly through the official information.

The Short Version

My impression was that it's an easy-to-reach inn even without a car: about a 10-minute walk from Atami Station, with ocean views in every room and a natural hot spring public bath.
As for the Rakuten Mobile signal, the overall result from the official tool was “unknown,” so it might be reassuring to check for yourself before you go.

I've put the details below.

A Hot Spring Hotel Within Walking Distance of Atami Station, With Ocean Views in Every Room

This is a natural hot spring hotel in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and according to the official website, every room has an ocean view. However, I couldn't find anything about the number of rooms.
Here's the basic information I was able to gather.

  • Location: the seaside area of Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture
  • Access: about a 10-minute walk from JR Atami Station, or about 3 minutes by taxi, apparently
  • Price: I couldn't find room rates on the official top page or the hot spring page. The rock bed sauna (ganbanyoku) is 1,540 yen (tax included) for 90 minutes, and it seems you can book it in advance
  • Check-in/check-out: I couldn't find this on the official top page or access page
  • How to book: it looks like you use the accommodation booking button on the official site and apply through an external booking system. Apparently, checking, changing, and canceling are all done in the same system too. I couldn't confirm on the official site whether you can book by phone
  • Day-trip bathing: I couldn't find any mention of it on the hot spring page

Also, according to an official notice dated September 25, 2026, the whole hotel will be closed for equipment inspection and maintenance from Tuesday, October 13 to Thursday, October 15, 2026, and it will reopen at 9:00 on Friday, October 16. If you're thinking of going around then, it'd be a good idea to check your dates.

I couldn't find the rates or check-in time near the top of the official site, so checking in the booking system seems like the way to go. I also thought the closure notice is something you'd want to know about ahead of time.

Source-Flowing Open-Air Bath and Sauna: Facilities That Catch an Indoor Type's Eye

The spring quality is a sodium-calcium chloride spring (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, high-temperature), and the source is called “Atami No. 252,” apparently. The official hot spring page seems to list a water temperature of 76.1°C, a flow rate of 150 L per minute, and a pH of 8.3.
The large public bath uses a top-up system (partly circulated and filtered, with fresh source water flowing in), and the open-air bath is said to use source water flowing straight through.

It seems the saunas differ between the men's and women's baths.

  • Men's bath: apparently there's a sauna room with an automatic loyly (steam-pouring) system, plus a cold plunge pool
  • Women's bath: it's a steam sauna, and loyly isn't available, apparently

The facilities section on the official top page also listed a private open-air bath, Asian-style beauty treatments, a multipurpose room, barrier-free access, and a buffet-style restaurant. I haven't been able to check the details of each, though.
My impression was that this is an inn suited to relaxing in your room and the hot spring, then heading home.

Getting There Without a Car, and Nearby Spots You Can Probably Walk To

If you're going without a car, it seems the official access page gives detailed directions: take the right-hand exit at Atami Station and head down through the Heiwa-dori shopping street. After you come out behind the hotel, go down the stairs and the entrance will be on your left, apparently.
If you take a local bus, board one bound for “Atami Port” or “Korakuen” and get off at “Omiya no Matsu,” and the hotel is right in front of you, it seems. However, I couldn't find the travel time or how often the buses run. I also couldn't confirm on the official access page whether there's a shuttle bus or how to get there from Kinomiya Station.

According to the official access page, here are the rough distances to nearby spots.

  • Sun Beach: about 1 minute on foot
  • Shopping street: about 6 minutes on foot
  • Kiunkaku: about 15 minutes on foot
  • MOA Museum of Art: about 10 minutes by car

If you're driving, parking is by advance reservation only and limited to 30 cars. Cars without a reservation can't use it, and if it's full, it seems you'd need to find a nearby coin parking lot yourself. The height limit is 2.1 m, and the entrance is apparently reached by following the directions from the neighboring hotel's entrance. I couldn't find the parking fee.
As a paper driver, being within walking distance of the station felt really reassuring.

You can walk from the station, and both the beach and the shopping street are close by. I thought being able to drop off your bags and then stroll around with nothing to carry is a nice perk for people without a car.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

I entered this facility's location into the official “my Area Network Simulation” tool to check.
The overall result came back as “unknown.”

Honestly, that result alone makes it hard to judge the signal situation. At the very least, I didn't see anything like “in coverage and good” on the official tool.
I haven't actually tried it on site, so I can't say how well it connects inside the building or in the rooms.

If a good connection matters to you for work or watching videos, it might be reassuring to check ahead of time. If you're curious, please try Rakuten Mobile's official “my Area Network Simulation” yourself.

This time the result was “unknown.” I can't call that good, so I'm being upfront about it. If you're curious, please check with the official tool.

Wrapping Up

To sum it up, my impression of Atami Seaside Spa & Resort is that it's a hot spring hotel about a 10-minute walk from Atami Station, with ocean-view rooms and an open-air bath fed by flowing source water, and one that's easy to consider even without a car.

It also seems to have a sauna, a private open-air bath, a rock bed sauna, and more, so it looks well suited to a relaxed hokans, moving between your room and the hot spring. On the other hand, I couldn't confirm the room rates, check-in time, or whether day-trip bathing is offered near the top of the official site. When booking, I'd check the booking system or the official site (https://www.atamiseaside.com/) for the latest information. There also seems to be a full-hotel closure in mid-October, so it'd be good to keep that in mind too.

As for the Rakuten Mobile signal, the overall result from the official tool was “unknown.” If you're concerned about connectivity, it might be reassuring to check with the official tool beforehand.
