Looking into Itoen Hotel Atamikan

I've been working my way through hot springs and hotels like a series, with a focus on places that are easy to get to without a car.

This time I looked into Itoen Hotel Atamikan. I have a driver's license but I don't actually drive, so a location just 2 minutes on foot from the station caught my eye, and I went through the official website carefully.

The Short Version

It's in a shopping street 2 minutes on foot from Atami Station, and apparently you can enjoy a large public bath with its own hot spring source and hokutolite, so it looked like an easy hotel to get around without a car.
The official tool gave an overall Rakuten Mobile rating of “C”, so if you need a solid connection, I'd recommend checking ahead of time.

I've put the details below.

Basic Info on the Hotel, 2 Minutes on Foot from Atami Station in a Shopping Street

The hotel is in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. According to the official website, the nearest station is Atami Station, and it's a 2-minute walk away, with the hotel standing in a shopping street.
The details seem to be gathered on Itoen Hotels' Atamikan page.

  • Access: 2 minutes on foot from Atami Station, inside a shopping street, apparently
  • Check-in / check-out: from 3:00 PM / until 11:00 AM, it seems
  • Price: The Atamikan page didn't list any prices, only a search form where you specify dates. It looks like you'll need to enter your dates on the official website to see actual rates
  • Booking: Besides the vacancy search on the official website, it seems you can also book by phone or through member registration. The site says booking directly through the official website is the best deal
  • Payment: Credit cards, electronic money, QR code payments, and gift certificates are apparently accepted

If it's only a 2-minute walk from the station, even a paper driver like me should be able to get there without getting lost. It's nice that I could just come by train and check in right away.

Why the Hokutolite Hot Spring and the Buffet Caught My Eye

The hot spring was what stood out most to me about this hotel. According to the official description, there's a large public bath that uses hokutolite, and it runs on the hotel's own hot spring source.
On the other hand, I couldn't find anything about open-air baths or private baths on the Atamikan page. Maybe the idea is to focus on enjoying the large public bath.

Meals are a buffet with Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, and the site says alcohol including draft beer is all-you-can-drink.
Apparently there are also limited-time food fairs in 2026 during May–June, July–August, and September–October, so it seems like the fun would change depending on when you visit.

As for the rooms, the site says you can get a sweeping view of the Pacific Ocean from the top-floor rooms. However, I couldn't tell the room types, sizes, or equipment details from the page, so that's something I'd want to confirm before booking.

Getting Around Without a Car, and Things to Watch Out For as an Indoor Person

Since I don't go by car, whether there's a shuttle is something I wonder about. The Atamikan page had no mention of a shuttle, only a link to the group-wide round-trip bus information page. It looks like I'd need to check the actual service details directly.

For those arriving by car, there's parking for about 94 vehicles (40 in a multi-level garage, 6 underground, and 48 off-site), and it's free for hotel guests. There also seems to be covered motorcycle parking, but spaces are limited, so you apparently need to contact them in advance. Large buses and minibuses also need advance notice, and it sounds like they'd be directed to paid parking.

There was also a notice that the cloakroom (luggage storage) is suspended in summer. If you want to drop by lightly with just a train ticket and a small bag, that seems worth keeping in mind.
As for sightseeing and food in the surrounding area, I couldn't find any information on the Atamikan page.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

I entered the hotel's location (in Atami City) into the official “my Area Connectivity Simulation” tool, and the overall rating came back as “C”.

That result is exactly what the official tool returned. If you want to stream videos or do remote work in your room or elsewhere in the hotel, it would be a good idea to check beforehand.
I couldn't find any mention of in-house Wi-Fi on the Atamikan page, so if you need it, it seems safer to ask them in advance.

If you're curious about the signal conditions, please try the official Rakuten Mobile simulation tool yourself too.

As a Rakuten Mobile user, that C rating made me a little uneasy. Maybe the best way to spend a stay here is to relax with the hot spring and the food and give my phone a rest.

Wrapping Up

To sum up, my impression of Itoen Hotel Atamikan is that it's a hotel in a shopping street 2 minutes on foot from Atami Station, where you can enjoy a large public bath with its own hot spring source and hokutolite along with a buffet, and which looks easy to reach without a car.

I couldn't confirm the prices, shuttle service details, room specifics, or whether there's an open-air bath on the Atamikan page. When booking, it seems best to check the conditions for each date through the vacancy search on the official website.
The Rakuten Mobile signal got an overall rating of “C” from the official tool, so if a good connection matters to you, it might be reassuring to check with the tool and ask about the in-house Wi-Fi.
