I Looked Into Hotel Sunvalley Nasu
2026-09-06

On this blog, I've been gradually looking into not just campgrounds, but also facilities that could work for those "let's skip camping and go for a hotel vacation instead" kind of days.
This time, I looked into Hotel Sunvalley Nasu, a large resort hotel located in Nasu Onsen, Tochigi Prefecture. I came across information saying you could enjoy three different types of hot spring water there, and as someone who loves onsen, that caught my attention.
My impression was that this is a fairly large-scale onsen-hopping resort where you can move between three types of hot spring baths and an outdoor hot spring pool, all within the property.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool wasn't able to produce a result, so at this point all I can say is that it's unclear.
I've summarized the details below.
What Kind of Facility Is Hotel Sunvalley Nasu?
It's a large resort hotel located in the Nasu Onsen area. According to the official website, the guest rooms are spread across multiple buildings, including Oriental Garden, Forest Villa, The Cottage, Garden Suite, Fukurou no Mori, Queens Collina, Annex, Seiunso, and the Main Building. I found both "nine buildings" and "ten buildings" mentioned on the official site, so I couldn't pin down the exact number of buildings even at the time of writing this article. I also came across a figure of 298 total guest rooms, but since I couldn't confirm this in the main text of the official website, I'll avoid stating it as fact.
Also, as of August 2026, the Main Building has apparently been closed for renovation work since October 2025, and the restaurant inside the Main Building seems to be closed at the same time. Since the reopening date is undecided, anyone considering a reservation might want to check the official website for the latest information.
As for access, there's apparently a free, reservation-only shuttle bus from the west exit of JR Nasu-Shiobara Station, which you can use by calling ahead (the ride takes about 40 minutes). There also seem to be other options, like a local bus for around 500 yen round trip, or a taxi (about 40 minutes). As someone who doesn't drive, I felt pretty relieved just knowing this free shuttle bus exists. There's also apparently free parking for about 500 cars, so it looks convenient for those driving as well.

As someone who has a license but never actually drives, just knowing there's a free shuttle bus from the station makes a huge difference in terms of peace of mind. Since it seems to be reservation-only, it's probably a good idea to call ahead early if you're planning to go.
The Onsen-Hopping Zone: Three Hot Spring Types and an Outdoor Pool
The thing that caught my attention most while researching was the variety of hot spring water types at this facility. It seems you can enjoy two spring systems and three water types in total: the sulfur-based "Nasu Onsen" (a simple sulfur spring), and a rare mixed spring combining mildly alkaline water with magnesium spring water (a sodium chloride-sulfate spring). This mixed spring is apparently the only one of its kind in the entire Nasu area.
In the large communal bath area called Yuyu Tengoku, it seems that in addition to these three water types, there are also three kinds of saunas available: a salt sauna, a dry sauna, and a charcoal sauna. By the way, I also found information that Yuyu Tengoku resumed operations on July 17, 2026, so depending on when you're reading this, it might be worth double-checking the current status. There also seem to be building-specific bathing areas reserved for certain guests, such as Yudokoro Hinoki (an open-air bath made of hinoki cypress) and Mori no Yu.
The outdoor hot spring pool called Aqua Venus is also one of the highlights. It's about 50 meters around and apparently includes 10 different spots in total, such as jacuzzis, reclining baths, and a lazy-river-style current. Since it seems to only operate during summer with a winter closure period, it's probably worth checking in advance whether it'll be open during the season you want to visit. Rental swimwear and towels are apparently available too, which could be helpful if you want to travel light.
On the other hand, I couldn't find clear information about private baths. I did come across some online mentions saying there are no private baths, but I couldn't find any reference to this in the official website's own text, so I can't confirm it either way. If privacy is important to you, it's probably a good idea to ask when making your reservation.
Indoor Facilities and Dining, from an Indoor Person's Perspective
Room amenities seem to vary quite a bit depending on the building. In some buildings, like Oriental Garden, Forest Villa, and Garden Suite, rooms apparently come with their own bath and access to streaming services. Seiunso, on the other hand, seems to be built without in-room baths. Wi-Fi appears to be available in all rooms, but since the comparison chart showed some inconsistency in how this was noted across buildings, it's probably safer to check per room type. The entire property seems to be non-smoking, which makes things a bit easier to decide on.
Meals seem to mainly consist of buffet-style dinners and breakfasts for guests only, with restaurants divided into Japanese, Western, and Chinese styles. The Main Building's restaurant, Sky Hall, appears to be closed along with the Main Building itself as mentioned earlier, so it seems like Mori no Table (mainly Western food) and Manri (Chinese buffet) may currently be the main dining options. There's also apparently an in-house art museum displaying over 2,000 pieces, which sounds like a nice place for a stroll after a meal. A pet hotel seems to be available too, so it could be an option for those who want to stay with their dog.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
For signal conditions, I checked this facility's location using the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation" tool. As a result, no actual judgment was shown—instead, it displayed a fallback message to the effect of "currently under temporary maintenance," which made me think this might be a case where data simply isn't available for this area.
So this time, I can't say whether the signal is good or bad, and I'll just treat the signal conditions as unclear. I won't force a conclusion here and will just share it as is.

This isn't the first time I've run into a case where no result shows up, but it's still a bit concerning. If you use Rakuten Mobile, it might be reassuring to check for yourself before heading there.

Wrapping Up
To sum it all up, my overall impression of Hotel Sunvalley Nasu is that it's a large-scale onsen-hopping resort hotel in Nasu where you can enjoy three types of hot spring water and an outdoor pool all in one place. There were a few things worth confirming before booking, like the differences in amenities between buildings and the fact that the Main Building is currently closed, so it's probably a good idea to check the official website for the latest information when planning your trip. Since I wasn't able to get a result for Rakuten Mobile signal conditions, anyone who's concerned about that might want to check the official tool themselves beforehand for peace of mind.
