I Looked into Breeze Bay Lake Resort Kawaguchiko

I've been looking into inns and campgrounds one by one, focusing on places that seem easy to reach without a car. This time I picked a hotel in the Kawaguchiko area that could work as a side-trip stay for a hotel staycation.

Today I looked into Breeze Bay Lake Resort Kawaguchiko. I have a driver's license, but I'm a paper driver who doesn't actually drive, so I wanted to know whether I could get there on foot from the station. I checked the official website to find out.

The Short Version

It's a lakeside hotel with a large natural hot spring bath from the foot of Mt. Fuji, a sauna, and a second-floor observation restaurant, and it's about a 15-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station, so it looks easy to consider even without a car.
For Rakuten Mobile, the official tool gave a rating of "C", so if you care about getting a good signal, I'd recommend checking ahead of time.

I've put the details below.

A Quick Look at the Basics of This Lakeside Hotel

It's a hotel in Fujikawaguchiko Town, Yamanashi Prefecture, and the official website is here. It was presented as an individual facility page within the operating group's site.

  • Check-in / check-out: Apparently check-in starts at 15:00 (last check-in 23:00), and check-out is at 10:00
  • Room types: There seem to be Western-style twin rooms, Western-style triple rooms, and a 16-tatami Japanese-style room. The rooms are on the 3rd floor and the 4th to 7th floors
  • Price: I could see plan names, but the top page of the official website didn't list any prices, so I couldn't confirm them
  • How to book: It looks like you book through the lodging reservation section of the official site, searching by plan list or room type. Phone and inquiry form options were also listed
  • Number of rooms: I couldn't find any information

There was also a note saying that foreign staff members handle the front desk. My impression was that the hotel might get a lot of guests from overseas.

It was a little disappointing that no prices were listed. It looks like I'd have to check the actual rates on the booking screen to decide.

The Large Bath and Observation Restaurant, Which Caught My Eye as an Indoor Person

There's a large bath on the 2nd floor, and apparently it uses natural hot spring water that wells up from underground at the foot of Mt. Fuji. There also seems to be a sauna. On the other hand, the official website clearly states that there is no open-air bath or cold plunge pool. If you like to use a cold plunge after the sauna, it's good to know that in advance. As far as I could tell, there was no information about the type of spring water or the opening hours of the large bath. I also couldn't find any information about day-use bathing.

The 2nd floor also has an observation restaurant, where you can apparently enjoy views of Lake Kawaguchi. Its opening hours weren't listed.

As for meals, dinner is a half-buffet of Japanese and Western dishes that includes things like beef and grape sukiyaki-shabu, and it comes with 90 minutes of all-you-can-drink. Breakfast is a buffet, it seems. Plan examples listed included beef and grape sukiyaki-shabu, Fuji Sakura Pork hot pot, and a light dinner with a boat-shaped sashimi platter (all with one night and two meals).

Facilities That Look Great for Spending Time Inside the Hotel

My impression was that there are quite a lot of facilities that let you enjoy your time inside the hotel without going out.

  • Karaoke: On the 2nd floor, open 15:00 to 22:00, free for one hour, and reservations aren't accepted
  • Recreation room: On the 3rd floor, and it seems you can use table tennis, darts, and billiards for free from 15:00 to 23:00
  • Happy hour: On the 1st floor from 15:00 to 17:00, with free alcohol, soft drinks, and steamed meat buns (self-service)
  • 24-hour corner: Free coffee and tea, loan items, and an ice machine, apparently
  • Other: A shop (1st floor), a lounge, massage chairs, a manga corner, and vending machines
  • In the rooms: Wireless LAN is available in all rooms, and there seems to be a microwave on the 2nd floor

The hotel is non-smoking inside, and it seems smoking is limited to the outdoor smoking area (on the 1st floor) or a smoking room.

Easy to Reach Without a Car? Access and Parking

According to the official website, it's about a 15-minute walk from JR Kawaguchiko Station. If you're driving, it's said to be about 10 minutes from the Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway.

One thing to watch out for is that the official website clearly states that no shuttle service is provided. From the station, it looks like you'll need to walk or think of another way to get there.

For those who come by car, there seems to be a free parking lot on the premises for about 15 standard-size cars. Reservations aren't possible, and it's first come, first served. When it's full, the guidance says to use a free parking lot by the lake (about a 5-minute walk, with a slope). However, apparently the lakeside lot can't be used on days when events or sports tournaments are held, so it seems worth being careful if you're driving.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

I checked the hotel's location with the official my Area Connectivity Simulation, and the overall rating came up as "C".

This result is the actual rating produced by the tool the company publishes. At the hotel's location or inside the building, there might be moments when the connection is a concern. If you want to use mobile data for work messages or watching videos, it's probably a good idea to keep that in mind.

Also, since wireless LAN is available in all rooms, that should help while you're inside the hotel. If you're curious, please check your own destination with Rakuten Mobile's official tool.

The rating was C. But it sounds like there's Wi-Fi in the hotel, so that put my mind a bit more at ease.

Wrapping Up

To sum up, my impression of Breeze Bay Lake Resort Kawaguchiko is that it's a lakeside hotel with a large natural hot spring bath from the foot of Mt. Fuji, a sauna, and a second-floor observation restaurant, reachable on foot in about 15 minutes from Kawaguchiko Station.

There are plenty of facilities for spending time inside, like karaoke, table tennis, and happy hour, so it could be a good candidate for a side-trip stay on a hotel staycation. On the other hand, a few things are worth knowing beforehand: there's no open-air bath or cold plunge pool, there's no shuttle service, and I couldn't confirm the room rates or hot spring details on the official website's top page.

As for Rakuten Mobile signal conditions, the official tool gave a rating of "C". If that concerns you, it might be reassuring to check with Rakuten Mobile's official tool before booking.
