I Looked Into TAOYA Hakone
2026-08-28

Along with campsites, I've also been gradually researching, in a series-like format on this blog, candidate spots for those "let's skip camping today and go for a hotel stay instead" kind of days. This time, I'm putting together a special extra edition of that.
While researching the name "TAOYA Hakone," which apparently had its grand opening in November 2025, I came across the story that every single room offers a "forest view" overlooking the woods of Hakone. That caught my interest, so I decided to look into it right away.
It seems like all 77 rooms (according to some information) offer a forest view overlooking the woods of Hakone — a new Oedo Onsen Monogatari group facility that really seems to focus on its views.
The Rakuten Mobile signal came back with a "C" rating on the official tool, so that's something worth keeping in mind.
I've put together the details below.
What Kind of Place Is TAOYA Hakone?
It's a new facility located in the Sengokuhara area of Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture, and it apparently had its grand opening on November 1, 2025. It's operated by Oedo Onsen Monogatari Hotels & Resorts, and this is apparently the group's first location in Kanagawa Prefecture. The "TAOYA" brand itself seems to be rolled out at multiple locations nationwide, and this appears to be positioned as one of that lineup.
The biggest feature being promoted is that every room offers a "forest view" overlooking the woods of Hakone. I also came across information suggesting there are multiple room types, such as superior Japanese-Western style twin rooms and standard twin rooms, but the official website's content is built to display dynamically via JavaScript, so as far as I could confirm, I wasn't able to verify the detailed room sizes or capacity. As for the total number of rooms, I saw multiple sources citing "77 rooms," but some overseas booking sites list a different number of rooms, so I couldn't confirm the exact figure — I'll leave this as something that needs further verification.
Regarding accommodation rates, I came across information mentioning an all-inclusive plan starting from 21,300 yen per person, or a group plan for 6 people starting from 12,936 yen per person, but the official rates page is also rendered via JavaScript, so I wasn't able to directly confirm the prices. If you're actually considering booking, it seems safest to check the latest plans on the official website or booking sites like Rakuten Travel. As for how to book, it seems reservations are accepted both through the official website and by phone.
The Marquetry Restaurant and Scenic Lounge — Facilities That Caught My Eye as an Indoor Type
The large communal bath is newly built this time, complete with an indoor bath, sauna, and cold bath, and is described as offering a view where "you can take in the grand nature of Hakone." The open-air bath is also described with phrases like "a breathtaking view where the sky and forest seem to blend together," suggesting the design places a lot of emphasis on relaxing time spent inside the facility.
What personally caught my interest was the "scenic lounge." It has a drink counter offering not just coffee and soft drinks but also beer and wine, and it's apparently a calm space with a fireplace. As someone who prefers staying indoors, I was drawn to the idea that I could just relax in this lounge without needing to go outside.
The restaurant features interior décor incorporating Hakone's traditional marquetry craftwork throughout, and apparently offers a dinner buffet style with a live kitchen. There was also information suggesting the facility includes non-smoking rooms, a gift shop, and a recreation corner with table tennis, shogi, go, and mahjong, though this wasn't mentioned in the official press release, so I'd treat it as somewhat reference-level information. There was also information suggesting that Wi-Fi is free throughout the facility and in all rooms, and that there's free parking for around 80 cars, but I wasn't able to directly confirm these either from the official website's content.

Just spending a whole day sipping drinks while watching the fireplace in the scenic lounge — even someone like me who tends to laze around at home feels like I could actually pull that off.
Access and How to Enjoy the Surrounding Area
For those using public transportation, it apparently takes about 35 minutes by Hakone Tozan Bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station, plus around a 5-minute walk from the nearest bus stop. From Sounzan Station on the Hakone Tozan Cablecar, there's also mention of a reservation-only shuttle bus taking about 20 minutes, though I wasn't able to fully confirm details like the timetable or reservation deadlines on the official website. By car, there was also information suggesting it's about 25 minutes from the Gotemba Interchange on the Tomei Expressway.
Nearby, there's the Sengokuhara silver grass field, and it seems November, right around the opening, is roughly peak viewing season. Classic tourist spots like Owakudani, Lake Ashi, the Pola Museum of Art, Hakone Shrine, and Hakone Gora Park are also apparently relatively close by. Sengokuhara seems to have a few cafes and soba restaurants as well, and if you head over to Hakone-Yumoto, you could also enjoy long-established soba shops and sweet shops. I haven't personally walked around this area to check the actual distances, so if you're planning to visit, it might be reassuring to check the map beforehand to get a sense of the layout.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
As someone who uses Rakuten Mobile, the signal conditions are naturally something I'm curious about. When I checked the location of TAOYA Hakone using the official "My Area Connectivity Simulation," the overall rating came back as "C."
To report the results as they were, it seems like this is a rating where it would be a good idea to keep connectivity in mind ahead of time when you're actually there. Since there was also information suggesting that in-facility Wi-Fi is available for free, it might be reassuring to check that option too during your stay. If you're planning to use Rakuten Mobile there, it seems worth preparing with this rating in mind.

I'll take the "C" rating at face value. If there's in-facility Wi-Fi, it seems safer to rely on that.
Wrapping Up
To sum it all up again, TAOYA Hakone left me with the impression of being a new Oedo Onsen Monogatari group facility with a real focus on views, where every single room offers a forest view overlooking the woods of Hakone. Details like the restaurant featuring marquetry craftwork and the scenic lounge with its fireplace also caught my attention as an indoor type, since there seem to be plenty of ways to spend a relaxing time inside the facility.
That said, since the official website's content for details like room count, rates, and room types is displayed via JavaScript, quite a bit of information remained unverifiable within the scope of what I looked into. If you're actually considering booking, it seems best to also check the latest information on the official website and booking sites. As for the Rakuten Mobile signal, the result came back as a "C" rating, so if that concerns you, it might be reassuring to check it yourself using the official tool as well.
