I Looked Into Takao Ne

In the Komorin Imaginary Travels series, I've been looking into all kinds of facilities—not just campsites, but also day-use hot springs and places you can get to without a car.

This time, I looked into a place called Takao Ne. What caught my interest was how easy it is to get to—just 1 minute on foot from Takaosanguchi Station—along with its unusual style as a terrace-type lodging facility with an attached cafe. Since I don't drive, just being close to a station was already a pretty big draw for me.

The Short Version

Being just 1 minute on foot from the station, it seems like a place you could enjoy for the cafe and terrace alone, even without staying overnight.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool gave it a "C" rating.

I've put together the details below.

What Kind of Place Is Takao Ne?

Takao Ne is apparently a lodging facility located in the Takaosanguchi Station area of Hachioji City, Tokyo. It's run by R.project Co., Ltd., and seems to sit in an area lined with trailheads and station-front facilities, just 1 minute on foot from Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Takao Line. If you're coming from the JR Chuo Line, it looks like you'd transfer to the Keio Takao Line at Takao Station.

From what I could see on the official site, the vibe felt less like a typical "hotel" and more like a terrace-style lodging facility with an attached cafe—that description fit better. There's currently no dedicated parking lot, so it seems you'd need to use a nearby paid parking lot, meaning it's probably worth checking ahead of time if you're driving. As someone who barely drives anymore, the fact that you can get there by train at all already felt like a huge plus for this location.

As for room rates, I wasn't able to access the detailed page on the official site, so this is just a rough guide, but apparently all plans include breakfast, and rates start from around 7,000 yen per person when two people share a room. I was also curious about how each room seems to have its own character—some plans come with a bathroom with a skylight, others with bunk beds.

Hearing that some rooms don't have a TV makes me, as an indoor type, brace myself a little, but maybe that's exactly the kind of setup that lets you focus more on the bath or stargazing instead.

A Terrace and Cafe Space You Can Enjoy Even Without Staying Overnight

One thing that stood out to me about Takao Ne is how much of it seems usable even if you're not staying there. The "Machi no Terrace" in front of the facility is apparently free for anyone to use, and it seems you're allowed to bring your own food and drinks, and even bring pets along. There's reportedly a faucet and scrub brushes for washing your shoes, so it seems like the kind of spot you could casually stop by after a hike.

The cafe and dining space called "KITCHEN" is open from around 11:30 AM to about 8:00 PM, and it seems that non-guests can also use it for lunch or a cafe visit. Besides the indoor seating, there's apparently also terrace seating facing the courtyard called "NAKA-NIWA," which sounds like a nice spot to spend time on a sunny day. It also seems you can try a day-use bonfire experience in the courtyard, with a setup that lets you rent a full fire pit kit even if you show up empty-handed.

On top of that, there's apparently a coin shower available for 500 yen per use, and hiking shoe rentals available for day visitors at 220 yen per day (free for overnight guests). It gave me the impression that this facility is designed as a base to stop by before or after hiking Mount Takao. That said, there's no large communal bath facility like the "day-use hot springs" category this blog usually covers—it seems the day-use experience here mainly centers around the cafe, terrace, and bonfire.

  • Access: 1 minute on foot from Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Takao Line
  • Machi no Terrace: Free to use, food/drink bring-in and pets allowed
  • Cafe "KITCHEN": Open to non-guests, lunch and cafe use available
  • Day-use bonfire experience: Available empty-handed in the "NAKA-NIWA" courtyard
  • Coin shower: 500 yen per use for day visitors
  • Hiking shoe rental: 220 yen per day for day visitors (free for overnight guests)

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

I checked the address corresponding to Takao Ne's location using the official My Area Connectivity Simulation tool, and the overall rating came back as "C."

Since it came back as a C rating, it's probably a good idea to check your connectivity in advance. This might have something to do with the location being close to the mountainous area around Mount Takao. If you're planning on working or watching videos at the cafe, it might be reassuring to check your connection situation beforehand.

Honestly, the C rating is a bit of a concerning result. Since I'm a Rakuten Mobile user myself, if I go, I think I'll prepare in advance so I'm not stuck if I end up offline.

Wrapping Up

Looking back over everything, Takao Ne struck me as a facility that makes the most of its location just 1 minute on foot from Takaosanguchi Station, letting you enjoy the cafe, terrace, and bonfire experience even without staying overnight. The guest rooms also seem to come in distinctive plans—like a bathroom with a skylight or a rooftop space—so it also seems like it could be fun to pair a hike with an overnight stay there.

Since the Rakuten Mobile signal came back as a C rating, if you're planning to use data there, it's probably worth checking the official tool ahead of time. If you're curious, you can check it yourself using the official Rakuten Mobile tool before you visit.
