I Looked Into Hakodate Onuma Tsuruga Resort Epuy
2026-09-02

On this blog, since I can't actually visit every place myself, I keep researching official sites and other information sources to introduce a series of accommodations and campsites. I also occasionally cover hotels and hot spring inns as "side trips for a hocance (home + vacance) getaway."
This time, I looked into "Hakodate Onuma Tsuruga Resort Epuy" in the Onuma area of Hokkaido. When I found out it has rooms with private open-air hot spring baths, the idea that you could enjoy a hot spring without even leaving your room really caught my attention as someone who prefers staying indoors, so I decided to do some research.
There's apparently a room type where you can enjoy hot spring water sourced from around Lake Onuma right in your own private open-air bath, so it sounds like a place where you could enjoy that hot spring feeling without ever leaving your room.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal conditions, I wasn't able to confirm a result this time.
I've put together the details below.
A Place That Seems to Be All About Rooms With Hot Springs
Hakodate Onuma Tsuruga Resort Epuy is apparently a resort hotel located in the Onuma area of Nanae Town, Hokkaido. It seems to be operated by a group that runs several resort hotels within Hokkaido. It looks like it used to be listed under a slightly different name at one point, but it's currently listed under this name.
According to the official website, there are apparently five room types available.
- Twin with Spa Living: a type with a spa space inside the room
- Workation Room with Spa Living: apparently a room where you can also get work done
- Twin with Open-Air Hot Spring Bath: a type with a private open-air hot spring bath in the room
- Twin Room: the standard type
- Double Bedroom (Canopy Bed): apparently a romantic type with a canopy over the bed
That said, I wasn't able to confirm the capacity, room size, or specific price ranges for each type on the official website. Pricing seems to vary by plan, with options such as a plan offering 10% off for early payment, an anniversary plan, and a plan commemorating the resort's 10th anniversary. There's also apparently a perk where signing up for free web membership gets you 5% off all plans, so it might be worth registering if you're interested.

Being able to soak in a hot spring without leaving your room is a pretty tempting point for someone like me who prefers staying indoors. I'm the type who doesn't want to move around much even when traveling...
About the Communal Baths and On-Site Facilities
Besides the in-room baths, there's also apparently a communal open-air bath using hot spring water sourced from around Lake Onuma. It seems there's no indoor bath, only the open-air one, though washing areas are apparently provided. There also seem to be different types of saunas for men and women, with a dry sauna on the men's side and a mist sauna on the women's side. The spring is apparently a simple thermal spring.
There are also apparently two private reservation-based baths, and one of them apparently has a waterfall-style bath as well. I wasn't able to confirm the usage fee, but having an option to relax separately from the communal bath might be a nice perk.
Inside the building, there's apparently a bar lounge, a lobby lounge, a bakery shop, and a boutique, among other things. There's also apparently a free lounge for guests where you can help yourself to wine, beer, and soft drinks during certain hours. At night, there's apparently a free projection mapping show held in the garden on the grounds, so it sounds like you could enjoy something fun just by stepping outside for a bit after dinner.
- Restaurant: apparently focused on original dishes using seafood from the waters near Hakodate and ingredients from around the Onuma area
- Garden: there's apparently a botanical garden called "Epuy Botanical Garden," where you can view plant information via QR code
- Activities: a wide variety, apparently including cycling around the lake with rental bikes, canoeing, sightseeing boats, and guided hiking tours of Mt. Komagatake
I Looked Into Whether It's Easy to Reach Without a Car
As noted in the tags, even though I do have a driver's license, I'm what's called a "paper driver" who barely drives, and I'm not confident behind the wheel. Because of that, whether I can get somewhere without a car is something I always check.
From what I found, this facility apparently offers a free shuttle bus from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, Hakodate Station, and Hakodate Airport. However, it's apparently fully reservation-based, and you need to call to reserve by 8 p.m. the day before. From Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, there are apparently two departures, at 12:20 p.m. and 3:20 p.m., with a travel time of about 20 minutes. For those of us who don't drive, it seems like a good idea to check this in advance.
Also, if you're taking the train, you can apparently get off at Onuma-Koen Station and walk about 5 minutes to reach the property. From Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, it's apparently about 10 minutes by limited express Hokuto, or about 20 minutes on a local train, so travel time by train doesn't seem too long either. That said, the shuttle bus route only appears to cover Hakodate Station, Hakodate Airport, and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, and doesn't seem to stop at Onuma-Koen Station, so that's worth keeping in mind. There's also apparently free outdoor parking for 60 cars, so it looks like the facility accommodates guests arriving by car as well.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
When I tried to check this facility's location using the official "My Area Coverage Simulation" tool, no result showed up, and instead it displayed a message saying it was undergoing temporary maintenance. It seems this kind of message can appear when data for the target area hasn't been registered, so I wasn't able to check the signal conditions this time.
Because of that, I'm treating the Rakuten Mobile signal conditions at this facility as "unknown." I can't just guess and say something like "it's probably fine," so I'm sharing honestly that I wasn't able to confirm it.

As a Rakuten Mobile user myself, it's a bit frustrating when I can't get a clear result, but in cases like this, all I can do is be upfront about it. If you're concerned, I'd recommend checking for yourself too.
If you're concerned about signal strength, it's probably best to enter the actual address into the official Rakuten Mobile tool and check for yourself.
Wrapping Up
To sum things up again, Hakodate Onuma Tsuruga Resort Epuy left me with the impression of being a resort hotel where you can enjoy hot spring water from around the Onuma area in a private open-air bath in your room, which is great news for indoor types like me. With features like the in-house lounges and the projection mapping in the garden, it seems like there are plenty of ways to relax even outside your room, which could suit people who don't want to move around too much while traveling.
As for access, with the free shuttle bus from the station and the option of walking from a JR station, it left me with the impression of being a facility that's relatively easy to reach even without a car. That said, since I wasn't able to confirm the Rakuten Mobile signal conditions this time, anyone considering staying here might want to check the official tool themselves just to be safe.
