I Looked Into NOT A HOTEL AOSHIMA
2026-09-24

I've been keeping up this routine of researching campsites, day-use hot springs, and lodging facilities one by one and writing them up on this blog. Up until now, I've mostly focused on places that seem accessible even without a car, but every once in a while I get curious about checking out something with a bit of a different vibe.
This time I looked into NOT A HOTEL AOSHIMA. I came across a social media post describing this place in Aoshima, Miyazaki as "a hotel with a skateboard park," and that got me curious about what kind of place it actually is.
It struck me less like a hotel and more like a tropical resort-style property under a distributed ownership model, complete with a skateboard park and a pool sauna.
The Rakuten Mobile signal rating there is apparently a C, so if you're thinking of staying, it might be a good idea to check it in advance.
I've put together the details below.
What Kind of Place Is NOT A HOTEL AOSHIMA?
From what I found, NOT A HOTEL AOSHIMA is a property located in the Aoshima area of Miyazaki City, and it apparently opened in 2022 as the very first location for the NOT A HOTEL brand. Unlike a typical hotel booking site, it seems to work as a membership-based distributed ownership model, and what struck me as distinctive is that instead of a booking flow, the site leads you toward an inquiry form via a "Request Materials" button.
Because of that, I couldn't find any per-night pricing like you'd see at a regular hotel, and I wasn't able to confirm the fee structure from the official site. If you're curious whether stay-only use is possible, it seems best to contact them directly.
By the way, I did come across some information suggesting the site used to be a different facility, but I couldn't find anything about that on the official website, so I wasn't able to verify whether it's true. I'll just share that this point remains unconfirmed.
- House types: There are apparently six types—CHILL 2.0, COAST, MASTERPIECE, CHILL, GARDEN, and SURF—and most of them come with one or two bedrooms plus a terrace.
- Booking method: It looks like you go through the "Request Materials" button on the official site to reach an inquiry form.
- Check-in: A heading mentioned that you can check in about 15 minutes from Miyazaki Airport, but I couldn't find any specific check-in times listed.

It feels less like a hotel and more like a shared vacation home that a group of people co-own, I guess? As an indoor type myself, this might be a world that's a bit removed from my usual life, but I have to admit the lineup of facilities really caught my interest.
A Skateboard Park and a Pool Sauna — The Facilities Really Caught My Attention
What caught my eye the most at this facility was, without question, the skateboard park. It's described as offering a "seaside ride cutting through the sea breeze," so it sounds like it makes good use of its beachfront location. I don't drive, and skateboarding isn't really a hobby I have much connection to either, but I feel like it's pretty rare to find a place to stay with a facility like this.
On top of that, there's apparently a guest-only gym stocked with proper training equipment, which could be great news for anyone wanting to get some exercise in. There's also an area combining a pool and sauna, described as a curved pool with a domestically made barrel sauna set right alongside it.
- PARK: There's a grassy lawn area that seems to function as an outdoor relaxation space.
- LDK: Apparently a dining facility where you can enjoy dishes made with local ingredients along with desserts from a pastry chef.
- BBQ: There seems to be a barbecue facility offering pre-cut ingredients along with self-serve free drinks.
- There's also a service allowing you to rent and drop off an EV rental car at Miyazaki Airport, which left me with the impression that getting around by car is pretty central to how this place works.
As for access, the only route explained on the official site is via the airport: it mentions "about 15 minutes by car from Miyazaki Bougainvillea Airport (Miyazaki Airport)" and "about 95 minutes by air from Haneda Airport to Miyazaki Airport." There was no mention of a walking route from the nearest train station on the official site, so I couldn't confirm those details. As someone who doesn't drive, I honestly wish there was a bit more detailed public transit information available.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
When I checked this location using Rakuten Mobile's official "my Area Network Simulation" tool, the overall rating came back as a "C." It seems worth taking a look before you go.
Given that this facility is located along the coast in Miyazaki, it might be an area where signal conditions vary quite a bit depending on exactly where you are. If you need to stay in touch with work during your stay, or if you use a lot of data for things like video streaming, it's probably worth checking in advance for peace of mind.

A "C" rating is a bit of a concerning result. Since I'm a Rakuten Mobile user myself, in places like this I find myself wondering just how solid the Wi-Fi setup is.
Wrapping Up
To sum it all up, NOT A HOTEL AOSHIMA left me with the impression of being a distributed-ownership resort property with facilities that go beyond what you'd expect from a typical hotel, like a skateboard park and a pool sauna. Its membership-based system and the request-materials approach to inquiries look like they'd make for a somewhat different experience compared to booking a regular stay.
The Rakuten Mobile signal rating came back as a "C," so if you're considering staying there, it might be reassuring to check using Rakuten Mobile's official tool beforehand.
