I Looked Into Kodomo no Kuni (AOSHIMA PICNIC CLUB)

This blog is where I look into and record campgrounds and glamping facilities one by one, but this time I'm covering a place with a slightly different vibe than usual.

While I was searching for campgrounds in Miyazaki Prefecture, I learned that there's a free-admission park called Kodomo no Kuni that has an area featuring everything from glamping to auto camping and even an RV park, so I decided to look into it. Being just a 1-minute walk from the station was a pretty big point of interest for me, since I don't drive.

The Short Version

Being about a 1-minute walk from JR Kodomo no Kuni Station seems to be the biggest feature here—that kind of proximity to a station is pretty rare for a campground.
As for Rakuten Mobile signal, the official tool couldn't provide a result, so it remains unknown.

I've summarized the details below.

I Looked Into What Kind of Place Kodomo no Kuni Is

Kodomo no Kuni, located in Miyazaki City, is apparently a free-admission park operated by Miyazaki Kotsu Co., Ltd. It also has a rose garden and a park golf course, giving it the feel of a large park open to the local community.
Interestingly, only the accommodation area within this park is run under a separate brand called AOSHIMA PICNIC CLUB, which makes for a somewhat unique structure. Looking at the official websites, I noticed that information about the park as a whole is on `kodomo-no-kuni.com`, while information about camping and glamping reservations is on a separate site, `aoshimapicnicclub.com`.

As for access, it's about a 1-minute walk from JR Nichinan Line's Kodomo no Kuni Station to the central gate, which was pretty reassuring information for someone like me who doesn't actually drive despite holding a license. There also seem to be bus stops right in front of Kodomo no Kuni and the ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki, so it looks possible to get there without a car. Of course, if you're driving, it's apparently about 15 minutes from the Miyazaki Interchange or Miyazaki Airport, so it seems like an easy place to reach either way. Also, the paid parking lot next to the park (D Parking Kodomo no Kuni) reportedly offers the first 30 minutes free, with a flat rate of 500 yen per 24 hours after that.

Being a campground that's just a 1-minute walk from the station felt like a dream location for someone like me who doesn't own a car. This might be a great point for campers who travel by train.

There Seem to Be 3 Ways to Stay: Glamping, Auto Camping, and RV Park

From what I found, the accommodation types seem to be broadly divided into three categories. It looks like names such as "Forest Camp Area" and "Oceanside Camp Area" were used in the past, but the current official site seems to have organized things under the following names.

  • Forest Glamping: Apparently there are 8 tent-style rooms scattered throughout a wooded area filled with large tabu trees. It seems to be equipped with things that would interest even an indoor type like me, such as air conditioning, a refrigerator, and a Bluetooth-compatible record player. There's also a lodge-style option called SAFARI TENT, which reportedly comes with a bed and bedding included.
  • Auto Camp: There are apparently 26 auto sites and free tent sites available, with sites that allow cars to pull in and plans that include a power supply. Open fires directly on the ground are prohibited, and a fire pit and fireproof sheet are required, so it looks like you'll need to bring your own gear.
  • RV Park: It reportedly accommodates vehicles up to 5.5m in length and 2.4m in width, and offers a 100V/20A power supply along with Wi-Fi. There's no running water or cooking area, but restrooms are said to be available 24 hours a day.

It seems that both Forest Glamping and Auto Camp offer a private sauna and shower that can be booked exclusively. For all three types, guests can apparently use the hot spring at the neighboring ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki at a discounted rate. RV Park doesn't have bathing facilities on-site, so guests would need to use this neighboring hotel instead. RV Park doesn't seem like it would be much use to me since I don't drive, but I got the impression that Forest Glamping or the free tent sites at Auto Camp could be enjoyed even by someone traveling by train.

Things I Noticed About Check-in Times and What to Bring

As for Forest Glamping's check-in time, I found both "15:00–21:00" and "15:00–18:00" listed on the official site, and I couldn't confirm which one was correct. It might be a good idea to double-check directly before making a reservation, just in case. Check-out for all types seems to be set at around 10:00–11:00.

At Auto Camp, there are rules such as requiring a fire pit and fireproof sheet, taking your trash home with you in principle (with a designated trash bag available for 500 yen if you'd rather have it disposed of), and a quiet time policy after 20:00, which gave me the impression that this is a campground that values a peaceful atmosphere. Reservations are also split by type in an interesting way: Auto Camp bookings go through a site called Nap, Forest Glamping goes through the official reservation site, and RV Park goes through a site called SAUNA TRAVEL. Reservations and inquiries by phone are also apparently available.

Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions

When I checked this facility's location using the official my area coverage simulation tool, no result was displayed—instead, I got a message saying something like "currently undergoing temporary maintenance," so I wasn't able to check the signal conditions. This time I couldn't get either a good or bad result, so I'm noting it here as unknown.

Even though this is close to an urban area within Miyazaki City, it's also located within a park, so the conclusion this time is that the actual signal conditions remain unknown for now.

This was the first time I've seen the tool fail to give a result, so it was a bit surprising. If you're a Rakuten Mobile user, it might be reassuring to check the tool again yourself before actually heading there.

Wrapping Up

To sum it up, Kodomo no Kuni (AOSHIMA PICNIC CLUB) struck me as a place notable for its great access—about a 1-minute walk from JR Kodomo no Kuni Station—and the wide range of choices across glamping, auto camping, and RV park stays.

The fact that it's attached to a free-admission park also means you could enjoy strolling around and playing park golf in addition to camping, and it made me feel like a place I'd like to visit at least once, even without a car. On the other hand, I wasn't able to confirm anything definite about the Rakuten Mobile signal conditions, since even the official tool couldn't provide a result. If you're curious, it might be worth checking the official Rakuten Mobile tool yourself.
