I Looked Into Morino Koen, a Stay-Overnight Park in Izu Kogen
2026-09-30

On this blog, I've been researching campsites and day-trip hot springs one by one and writing them up, and this time I decided to look into the Izu area. Izu is famous as a hot spring destination too, so it's somewhere I'd been wanting to check out at some point.
This time I'm covering a place called Morino Koen, a campsite with a handmade feel located near Izu Kogen Station. Just from the name, I wasn't quite sure whether it was a park or a campsite, but when I looked into it, it seems to be a facility built around the concept of a "stay-overnight park," which caught my interest, so I decided to dig into the details.
This looked like a facility offering a lot of freedom in how you stay, combining an owner-built sauna with a full view of Izu Oshima island, along with lodges and tent sites.
Rakuten Mobile's signal came back as a "C" rating on the official tool, so it seems like connectivity might need a bit of attention there.
I've summarized the details below.
What Kind of Place Is Morino Koen?
It seems to be a campsite located up on a mountain in Izu Kogen, in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. According to the official website, it's about a 23-minute walk from Izu Kogen Station on the Izukyu Line, so if you're coming by train, it seems best to plan on a fair bit of walking. (There was a mention of a shuttle bus possibly being considered for the future, but I couldn't confirm whether it's actually running at this point.) Since I'm a driver who never actually drives, this kind of distance information always catches my attention.
The site is listed as "always open," though the official website doesn't specify exact hours or regular closing days. As for accommodation plans, besides tent sites (starting at 6,000 yen), there seem to be handmade lodges called motel66, motel55, and sky lodge starting at 12,000 yen (for 1-2 people), as well as a small one-person log cabin called "Takako lodge" for 6,000 yen. It looks like an extra 1,000 yen is added for each additional guest across all these options. Reservations seem to be accepted through the official website's form, as well as by phone or Facebook Messenger.

I was honestly surprised to find out there are four different types of lodges here. Since they each have their own name, it seems like a place where picking one would be part of the fun.
Checking Out the Sauna with a Full View of Izu Oshima Island and the Other Fun Facilities
The big highlight of this facility seems to be the sauna that the owner apparently built by hand. The official website describes it as "a sauna with the best view, overlooking all of Izu Oshima island," and mentions that there's also a shower enclosure and a jacuzzi available. It looks like the sauna can be booked exclusively, priced at 3,000 yen for 2 hours (up to 4 people, with 1,000 yen added per additional person). I couldn't find details on things like the temperature or whether there's a cold plunge pool on the official website, so that might be worth checking directly if you plan to actually use it.
- BBQ grills at the cooking area: these seem to be available on a pay-by-time basis, under a "cook it yourself" style setup
- The cafe "CafeBe2": apparently open from 11am to 3pm on weekends, serving pizza
- A park golf course, e-bikes, and four-wheel buggies: there also seem to be facilities on-site for getting active and having fun
- "Dome Studio" for music and karaoke: it looks like there's an indoor facility to enjoy as well
Looking at everything together, it gave me more of an impression of a small activity park than a typical campsite. Even as someone who's more of an indoor type, the sauna alone kind of makes me curious. There's also apparently a sister property called "Hotel Izu Kogen Monogatari," located about a 7-minute drive away.
Rakuten Mobile Signal Conditions
When I checked this facility's location using the official My Area Connectivity Simulation tool, the overall rating came back as "C." I'm just recording that result here as-is, straight from Rakuten Mobile's official tool.
Possibly because of its mountaintop location, it seems worth checking the signal situation ahead of time. If you're mainly planning to spend your time around the campfire or in the sauna, it might not bother you much, but if you're thinking about posting on social media or checking maps, it seems like a good idea to look into it beforehand just in case.

That "C" rating honestly gives me a bit of pause, but I'm trying to look at it as a good chance to just focus on the sauna and the view instead.
Wrapping Up
Putting it all together, Morino Koen struck me as a playful campsite centered around an owner-built sauna with an amazing view, where you can freely choose between lodges and tent sites. With activities like park golf and e-bikes also available, it seems like a facility well suited to spending a lively time with family or friends.
That said, since the Rakuten Mobile signal came back with a "C" rating, it might be reassuring to prepare in advance if connectivity is a concern for you. Anyone curious can check for themselves using Rakuten Mobile's official tool, so it seems worth taking a look before heading out.
